  1. Yeah try a recon if you can. Like maxximus_75 said, they might not show another hard pull. Let us know how it goes!
  2. Using a card multiple times soon after it's receipt is apt to get the card automatically suspended. It can be $0.01 per purchase, the "fraud" software they run is completely brain dead. I really think it's intentional - it makes maximizing rewards or low interest during an initial promo period essentially impossible.
  3. A happy ending to the story... I called in, FIA credit analyst was very professional & cordial. My former line of credit with them and the fact that I otherwise had perfect credit seemed to be key points. Card approved!
  4. Thought you guys might be interested in this. Nothing really new, but a good summary article on what's going on in the card industry. WSJ article
  5. bump
  6. It seems to be generally suggested here that you get a hard copy because they have more info on them than the online reports. Also, I'd like to see if I can't get some more credit showing on my report in about a month from now, just not sure if they'll deal with a recon in a month or so...
  7. Not enough credit history. Shouldn't have any negatives though. I'd like to see what they were looking at before I call up, but don't want them to say that it's too late and that I need to reapply because I don't want yet another hard pull coming through. Any idea how long I have before calling in?
  8. Got a card denial in the mail over the weekend, sent away for the EX hard copy today. How long do I have to do a reconsideration? I don't want them to tell me it's to late and I can only reapply after waiting for my report from EX... (Fidelity Amex for those wondering)
  9. Thanks for the advice SuperG! I was also considering going the Amex route to get things going again without destroying my AAOA, but was thinking of doing the charge card first because I've read that the Zync is a little easier to get. Why do you suggest doing the Amex credit card first? It's also worth noting that right now my TU score is a big goose egg (myFICO gives the error message "your credit report does not currently contain enough information to meet the minimum scoring criteria"). Will I be wasting an INQ on Amex with no FICO or will they look a little deeper and see that I've got no negatives, a steady salary, and did have some reporting going on with decent CLs ($17k BofA and $5k Chase) in the not-so-distant past? I'd really hate to have to sign up for a store brand card and wait 6 mo, or get a freaking secured CC. Bleck
  10. Also, it's worth noting that you're paying monthly for a quarterly report. In other words, over those 3 months you pay for the first quarter, your score will be the same. If you plan on checking your score again in exactly 3 months, and you can remember to cancel the subscription, then you'll save $17. Otherwise, the benefits decrease towards a $1 savings per quarter. Actually, more like $0.75 if you're using the promo code. Food for thought before setting yourself up for a rebill...
  11. I know (thanks to these forums ) that Amex will backdate their cards, but are there any other issuers out there who also do this? I'm mostly interested in BofA and Chase, but curious about others as well... My reason for asking is that I eschewed CCs for a while, and now find out I'm shooting myself in the foot with my credit. Haven't had any cards (or anything else for that matter) reporting since May 2009.
  12. While it's good to know I'm entitled to a free peak at my credit score, where/how do I actually do it? I read that entire linked article, only the first paragraph gives any info about the newly passed bill, and says nothing about how it's going to be implemented...
