For me it's been time. I understand your situation is very different from mine, but 3-8+ years of on time payments and pay offs plus new lines it what seems to help my credit score and creditors over look my past history. SL are hard because the laws are different and it takes a lot. Right now my lates are on NJ Hesaa and there is just no reasoning with those f---kers

Your BF absolutely needs to have his own cards too. Use CK for general information and for entertainment, but don't put too much stock in those skores when it comes to applying for credit. I'm assuming you've read all of the newbie threads and have all six of your printed reports (yours and your BFs) and you are working from those. Correct? Good luck and keep us posted, and post questions when you have them. Yes I do, the fako is low the last time I pulled my real score I was at 695-705 (between the three) I have all my reports and nothing is strange so I'm just using CK to monitor activity. Yeah we talked last night and he's going to just shoot for his own. So I guess I'm just doing monitoring and research lol. Thanks so much I will. I wish I could get the latest on my student loans off but reading around it seems like its another kind of bear.

Last week the two delinquent accounts on my so's cr were paid to the oc, so far looking at CK only one of the accounts has been removed this far which shot his EQ score up 67 points. Last night he applied for the BOA secure card. My new amex and csp are not reporting yet but the Nordstrom card

Not looking to hijack the thread (will start my own soon) but just curious if the OC for a cell phone bill changes the tactics for removal? As I'll detail in my own thread, had a 3 year old T-mobile bill come up (via ERC CA) and I'm now curious if the specific cell phone company demands a different upfront plan of attack. Thanks. I had one through ERC with Sprint. Went into a store and paid Sprint directly. It was deleted from my reports in a little over a week. Interesting, maybe we will try that this weekend instead of calling. I had surgery so there was a delay in doing this

So taking the advice I read in another thread, I’m going to start my own thread that I’ll use to ask questions and update for myself and the BF. We are attempting to clean up and build up his credit file while I am trying to pay down student loans and prepare to eventually own a home. I’m the “finance” one in this relationship and at work and we do plan to get married so we might as well get started now. Plus he wants to get a car and I don't want to co-sign it so I'd like his file to get cleaned so yea..lol that explains that His Credit: *I made a post in another thread but I will just post general info (thanks to the board members that responded)* CK reports TU: 567 EQ: 565, I haven’t gotten him to pull an EX for me yet so we can check it out. He has two recent collections for Sprint and T-Mobile and taking advice from another member we will call tonight to see if they will accept full payment of the OD. After that we’ll get the CA info removed…if the OD will accept. His file is super thin, a Lane Bryant CC from a thousand years ago but just recently closed and another card that I’m not sure is even his that is 11 years old (I honestly think someone opened it in his name). Going to go after a BOA secure card and I’ll add him as an AU on one of my cards but I will not give him the card to use…or even hold. I’m just not sure if it will help him or if he needs to have his own card. Another poster stated that having three would be his best bet to help me so we will aim for that. My Credit: I've lurked long on CB 690 per EX (per AMEX) CK reports TU: 682 EQ: 681 My accounts are made up of student loans (6 in total), a car loan at 0.9%, and two cc’s and now three new cc's I have no missed payments in the last two years, but I have a 150 day late on two loan lines (three but I paid one off and they are all from the same borrower) this is because it was reported that I graduated when I didn’t and couldn’t pay the loan until it was just paying the interest again. (NJ Hessa is the devil). Until this month no inquires and just focused on making payments and paying off loans. Inquires this month are 2 on EX and 1 on EQ Goal immediately is to pay SL lines under $7k in three years and my auto loan will fall off that same year as well. Once the SL lines with the 150 late goes current (in 2019) I’ll pay that off and that will leave the biggest SL which at this point I’ll just be happy I got rid of everything else. The recent accounts I’ve opened are: CSP at 5k, AMEX Blue at 10k, and Nordie’s at 2.5k (I fudged up here and applied online and not in the store so I have a store card. I did some research and will wait 7 cycles…happily using my card and then upgrade to the Siggy) Existing were: A PNC at $300 (I hate this card and I’m just leaving it open for the sake of my AAOA) and I am an AU on my mom’s freedom which it’s about time she gets a CLI on. For my own credit I think it’s just a game of waiting and having positive activity to encounter the past. There isn’t much I can do with the SL’s except pay them off and keep them positive. I’m done with apps so I’m just going to let my recent accounts start to age I’d like to say 2 years and that’s my goal. I just want to CLI the existing accounts appropriately. I really would like to buy the house next door so I just need to save and get into a better position to do so.

Awesome, thank you. Does it make a difference if he is an AU on any of the cards? Sprint and T-Mobile

So I am starting the process of helping my boyfriend clean up his credit report. Right now the most pressing things are two cell phone collection accounts. It'll take another 6 years for SOL to be applicable so the plan is to pay them off. I've read on here about never calling a CA, so can anyone point me in the right direction of letters that I can send to establish the account number so we (he) can pay these off? Also if these are paid off, does anyone know the likelihood of them staying on his report for 10 years? Or would I be able to dispute their presence on the report? Second I guess, he has one credit card that is reporting multiple times, no statements so I will just dispute all but one of the accounts. After all that we will get him a secure card and I'll make him an authorized user on one of my cards but I won't give it to him. Then just wait and slowly add accounts, he wants to get a car and I don't want to co-sign it. So whatever else I can do to get him on the good foot I'm interested in doing. Overall his file is extremely thin and the collection accounts are destroying his score. There really is no AAOA; after handling the collections it's almost just starting anew....IMHO Any advice please it's all welcome?

How can you set yourself up for success when (re)building credit?

Awesome advice, thanks! -
This thread is more than a year old, but encase it helps anyone. I have had two accounts with them and one late. I timed it wrong paying through my online banking account. Without asking about 4 months later they removed the ding from my reports.

I like this, part of my own plan. I have one store card and right now can't think of a reason for another one. I was able to bump up my credit limits and overall profile so I'll focus on paying off my student loans. -
The back to reality gang, membership open, strict requirements.

I'd like to join I lurk mostly but am starting to help the BF clean up his credit so we can continue on with our lives. Mostly because his credit is horrible and thought I'd leave him because of it...but it's above 500 so he can stay....for now. I applied for two credit cards, the first in 3 years. No interest in doing anything else until it's time for a mortgage. -
That's good to remember I just got approved for $10k with FAKO's (CK) TU 683 and EQ 682 Last baddie was 2012 on a student loan so no way to change that until it falls off. Nothing else on my report, this is my first prime card and the highest limit I have.

My perkins loan went into repayment last month, I honestly got so distracted by the multiple "this is not a bill" letters, I forgot that my payment was due. It was due on the 1st, I think I issued a payment either July 31 or August 1st. Now however the school marked my account as delinquent. I asked if it could be forgiven because I paid and while it was correct it was only the first payment. The woman I spoke to told me the only thing I could do was dispute it but: I'm wondering if I can't just call the school (where my CR directs me to call) and see if they will reverse it for me... I don't know if I should dispute something that is correct but I just wanted to get it forgiven.... If you dispute information on a CR when it is obsolete (in 7 years) and your a year from that will a dispute stop it from falling off? It is well within the right of the school to mark it that way but I'm not sure what I should do?
