Okay, so....I have 5 Sallie Mae loans reporting on my CRs. All 5 were in deferment/good standing when I filed BK. I was discharged June 2010 and those loans were consolidated and PAID IN FULL March 2010.

All loans show IIB for account status. Not correct, obviously.

At Sallie Mae, rep #1 tells me I need to fax verification the loans were paid via the consolidation co. - AFTER he himself told me he shows all loans with zero balance after being PAID VIA CONSOLIDATION. Alrighty. I asked to please transfer me to the correct dept to handle this.

He sends me to rep #2 who tells me they didn't put that notation there about IIB, the LOAN CONSOLIDATION CO DID. Uh, I don't think so. I explained to him the impossibility of this. Then he says he is really not the person for this, as his dept. handles loan origination. So...on to rep #3, who also tells me Sallie Mae definitely did not put this notation there. He referred me to the gaurantor (US Aid Funds).

Gaurantor rep says, nope Sallie Mae handles reporting (shocking), not them.

Anyone know who the heck I write to at Sallie Mae to get a knowledgeable person to fix this nonsense? I thought of writing to the CRA but it's on 2 of 3 (haven't gotten 3rd yet) and I don't necessarily want to lose good info - all were in good standing prior to consolidation and I need some good payment history showing - and I figure writing to Sallie Mae will hopefully make them report correctly to all 3.

Thanks for any info/help on this.

I am having some issues with Sallie Mae myself right now. It is really annoying. Although these two contact channels have not gotten me anywhere, I am having a different issues, so they may help you. I did mistakenly miss payments and have been trying to work with Sallie Mae to get the lates removed...I have not gotten anywhere so far, but these two contacts at least were better than Sallie Mae 800 hell.

You can email the Obudsman at OMBUDSMAN@salliemae.com, or you can contact the Customer Advocate Unit 888-545-4199.

Hope they help!

When you file BK, your student loans ARE included in the bankruptcy just like any other debt. However, they are not dischargeable...so technically the reporting is correct.

Thanks so much for this info. Coincidentally, I just this week discovered the Customer Advocate Unit! I will move onto your other suggestion if this doesn't work. Good luck to you - it's terrible trying to get anyone who even seems to understand what you're talking about at the usual 800#, I know.

Hmm...Citi Student Loans updated my account when I disputed with the CR and there is now no mention of the BK. It just says pays as agreed/paid with a zero balance. Guess I got lucky there...??

In what seems to be the Sallie Mae way, they updated differently to TU and EQ: On TU, they updated 4/5 loans to remove the IIB as the status and just put CH 7 BK in the remarks section. Those four show paid and closed now. The fifth one, even though it was taken out at the same time and only the last four digits of each of these accts is different, was "verified" and I have no idea how that makes sense. To EQ they "verified" that all 5 of these loans were IIB. This inconsistency is a problem, isn't it?

Also, these were ALL paid and satisfied. To anyone viewing my report the IIB status insinuates a discharge, not a PIF. How can this be accurate reporting? Also, the consolidation was requested in January 2010 (I filed BK in March 2010). The consolidation took forever, but the loans were actually paid within 10-14 days of the BK filing. I guess that doesn't matter but it does add to the frustration of this situation - even more so since Citi seemed to have no problem correcting on all 3 CRA reports. :(
