So, I've been a TWC subscriber for around 10 years or so at this point. For the last several years I carried only broadcast cable and RoadRunner. About 2 yrs ago, or maybe 1.5 yrs ago, I even downgraded my RoadRunner package to the 1.5mb down speed...due to both price and the fact that for the most part I don't need anything faster. During the last year, these 2 packages made my monthly bill $46: $30 for Roadrunner Basic; @$14 for broadcast cable and @$2 taxes/fees.

Come January, my bill went up $9 to $55/month with no changes in service. I thought that seemed like quite a jump and I can still do enough math that it is nearly a 20% increase! WTF? For no more service than I have?!

So, I have now purchased an indoor antenna that actually seems to be working well, even in my 1st floor apartment...it is pulling in ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX and PBS. So yay! Works great with my Panasonic TV which has built in tuner, so no converter or anything required there (I have another older TV in my office, but I don't use it). And the antenna was only $22 plus shipping.

And, I now have AT&T DSL which came online Friday and has been working just fine over the weekend. The DSL (Direct DSL, no land line phone service required) only comes in $5 cheaper per month that TWC, but it is still the principal of the thing.

To be fair, in the almost 10yrs I was with TWC, I rarely, and I mean RARELY, had issues with the actual service. But a 20% increase!!! On just broadcast cable and RR Basic? No way.

So now that the antenna and DSL are up and working I'll be taking my cable modem to TWC this week and giving them the finger.

Well good luck. I've used both cable and DSL internet over the years. I had to drop ATT DSL because it became horribly unreliable and it was impossible to get useful tech support, and I went back to Road Runner, which has never had any down time as far as I can recall.

I would be very tempted to do without cable TV nowadays, what with all the Internet options, but my apartment forces cable on me without the option to not buy it.

<_<( My TWC bill is 181$ a month for for 2 digital cable connections and 2 high speed internet connects, router, and a wireless hub.

It's been this high for well over a year now.

Good for you!

I've got a pretty good Winegard indoor antenna and get all broadcast channels now. I even get ABC, which was unavailable to most folks for a good while until the local station boosted its signal.

I refuse to go with Comcast, based on years-ago bad experiences, and am still waiting for FIOS to become available. Could be years.

BF has TWC, and there are still a lot of times when there's nothing on worth watching. Happens to me too, but my tv is free.

I feel so fortunate I don't pay for cable, but if I had to.. I probably (note I say: PROBABLY) wouldn't... however I would never give up my HSI ............
