I have been away from CB for a long time...but wanted to let you all know that Citibank approved me for a checking account in August '08. I applied online and was instantly approved. Closest Citibank branch to me is about 100 miles away, but when I have to make deposits it's easy enough to do so at the local CU I have an account with, and use the free Inter-Institution Transfer feature on Citi's Web site to put the money into Citi. I chose Citibank for their American Airlines AAdvantage frequent flyer mile debit card, as there are few BK-friendly airline credit cards and I fly American enough to put the extra miles I earn from spending to good use.

I applied expecting a denial since I have 2 Chex entries from early 2006...and also BK'ed Citi for over $8K in credit card debt. But I have used this as my primary checking account since August and have had no issues so far. My Chex record has 1 NSF and 1 NSF/account abuse, from B of A and a credit union, although both are paid.

YMMV, of course, but I'd be curious to see if anyone else with a Chex record has been approved for checking at Citibank. You don't hear much about Citi's banking products on this forum, but I'm very pleased.

I have had several others mention that they were approved by citi and later the accounts were closed due to chexsystems, Apparently if the loss prevention dept decides you are a risk, they will freeze your account and close it at a later time. If you are going to use this bank, I would not have all of my money there. Maybe have a back up account as well and split up your direct deposit if you have it.
