I've never reviewed by Chex report before, so I finally got a copy. Only two things are listed: an inquiry from when I opened an account, and one "NSF activity" from a former bank with no dollar amount or details listed.

My first instinct was to request validation and try to get the NSF thing removed, but the more I think about it the more I think I'm better off leaving it alone. It's a small-town bank, I'm fairly confident they would validate and they've actually got much worse information (i.e. account later closed with $300+ negative balance) I'm afraid they might report if poked.

So, now I'm thinking it's probably in my best interests to just let sleeping dogs lie and wait for the five-year clock to run out on the NSF thing.

Thoughts?
