Sounds like you are convinced you want a CU. If you are open to a bank, Compass Bank opened a checking account for me a few months ago with no issues thus far, despite my being in Chex.

I lived in AZ for several years. AZFCU ALWAYS treated me good. Im not in chexsystems and havent ever been so I dont know the ins and outs of it. But AZFCU was always very good.
