I had a corporate account with Washington Mutual. There was a check that was deposited and returned causing the account to be in overdraft. I didn't have the money to pay so they closed the account and sent the account to collection and reported it as "Fraud" on my chex system report. I paid off the collection and disputed the item with chex system. They eventually removed it from my report. I tried to open an account last month and was told I was not able to because of chex system report. When I received a copy of my chex system report, the washington mutual item was put on there again. Can someone tell me what I should do. Do I have to dispute it like the first time? How can I ensure that they don't put the item back again in the future? Any advice/suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Technically they do not have to remove it at all. Chexsystems is a credit reporting agency and as long as the information reported is accurate, it does not matter if you paid off the debt or not.

Do you still have proof that the debt was originally removed?
