A friend is in Chex for NSF with 5/3rd. She ordered her report, but it doesn't have an amount listed. The date reported is 7/2004. This was for an automatic debit that was withdrawn after the account was closed according to her.

A) How does she find what amount she owes?

 Should she pay the bank and get the Chex reflected as such?

C) If she does pay the bank, will the record still be deleted 5 years from July of 2004 or do they reage?

Thanks!

They will remove in 5 years whether she pays or not. if she is going to pay, she may want to bargain ( pay for deletion) Make sure she gets it all in writing. The same thing happened to my husband, he had an account that was closed because he moved and then something came through on the account and they accepted it. Really rediculous.

This is EXACTLY what happened to me. Only with Chase. We closed our account so that ACH debits wouldn't rack up fees that we can't pay - and THEY re-opened it and racked up the fees! How is this legal?!

I don't know about being legal but I am sure the bank would say that the ACH automatically re-opened the account and it was not their doing. That is what they told my husband. have you files any kind of dispute? Who is the reporting bank?

That is what the bank told us after it had happened when we went in. When we closed the account - they said that wouldn't happen. Nothing was in writing, we were very naive with them. No, we haven't filed anything, I didn't figure we'd win anything - it was our account that we closed, the ACH debits were ours so I figured that was it. Naive again? ;) The reporting bank is Chase.

This isn't about Chexsystems, but closing accounts....when my Dad died, I went to his bank and told them I wanted the account closed. They sent me to chat with one of the little office people behind glass :) and she closed it and said anything automatic would be returned as unpayable.

So, lesson learned...always have them set it to stop any ACH transactions if possible...there must be a way.

That's what we did face to face with the branch manager @ BOA here. Didn't matter :D they reopened the account anyways. There has to be a way to actually close the account?
