does T.Rowe Price ask trick questions?

on the last step in opening a account on T.rowe price website, it goes through some identity/security verification question.

 

one of the qustion I got was this:

 

3. Your credit file indicates you may have an auto loan/lease, opened in or around August 2003. Who is the credit provider for this account?

 

1ST UNITED SERVICES CU

GLEN RABE MOTOR COMPANY

OLD KENT BANK

WINTRUST FINANCIAL

NONE OF THE ABOVE

 

my only concern is that I NEVER had an auto loan lease at or around that time. Is this just a trick question, or did they really pull something out of my credit report?

They are probably using Lexis to verify your identity. Have you ever had a loan with any of those companies? I have noticed the timeframes the tell me on the verification questions are not always accurate.

one more question. I think I just signed up. when I go to T.Rowe price and click on "acivate my account,' it asks me for my account number. how do I get that? I did not get anything in the email.

 

( my internet died when I clicked on the submit button, so I never got any confirmation that my account was created)

Sorry to bump this, but I figured some people may want to know this information (from the resident T. Rowe Pricie)...

 

We don't use Lexis, we use Intuit. We used to use GeoTrust but recently switched to Intuit (which asks questions from your EQ report). I've used other services in the past and can say that mostly all of them ask one trick question.

 

As for the activation part, when opening a new account you would have to had to activate yourself but our system now will do it for you automatically after 24-48 hours. We have a backend system that the account is opened in right away and it takes 24-48 hours worth of processing to get into the front end database. Also, on the last page of the open account process it gives you your account number (page that tells you to print out the page for your records). If you didn't write it down from that page you'll need to wait for the new account confirmation to come to you in the mail as we cannot give that out over the phone as account number is one of our verification items. Hope this helps.

When I opened my TRP acct I answered all the questions correctly, and it still said I didn't. I ended up having to finish by mail.

 

It wasn't TRP, but I have had those L/N questions be trick questions before.
