DH and I are trying to get a mortgage but we need one more tradeline. DH's student loans are all in their grace period (May grad) so he called Sallie Mae to find out if his loan with them can enter repayment now instead of at the end of the grace period. Apparently the person he talked to didn't seem to know so he got transferred around and the last person said the only way they can do that is to backdate his graduation date so the grace period would end sooner. What we need is for the loan to report to the credit bureau as in repayment. Is there some other way we should be asking this because they seem to be really confused...

TIA!

I'm thinking they've got a crop of new CSRs, because I called Sallie on Monday asking a question about my new loan that just came out of rehab that went back to them, and the guy asked me if the rehab was approved by VA. :D

Do you have a TL with Crown Jewelers or Kay Jewelers? I hear that with their large CLs, they can give a nice bump.

Backdate a graduation date?? I dont think so. IMHO that would be fraudulent, particularly if loans were taken out for the last educational period.

No loans have been taken out since 2004 or 2005. So is backdating not a good way to go? It's so hard to try to repay!! All we want is for repayment to begin earlier so that it will report earlier.

I agree... it sounds like you were talking to a bunch of nubs.

You cannot backdate separation date (graduation date) to a date before it actually happened, you cannot request early repayment and waive the grace period, but you can just start paying:)

The date and amount of last payment received is included in the CB updates, as is the reduced balance.

Why they couldn't tell you something that simple is beyond me.

A deferred SL doesn't count as a TL? Or is the grace period something different? I've got a pair on my report but both say deferred although I've been paying on them regularly.
