Enter AmEx ID

Anyone else had one of those electronic signature/self-swipe terminals prompt ypu to "Enter AmEx ID"?

 

Basically, it wants you to enter the 4 digits that are above your embrossed card# (right side of card).

 

It used to be that this was only for online purchases, but I notice a lot of stores now have the cashier enter the AmEx ID or, now, have you enter it.

 

I wonder if Visa/MC may follow by requiring CVC entry?
