My turn to ask a question for once!! I am trying to figure out where my brother might be able to obtain a loan for my nephew . I do not know anything about student loans I was naive and just paid for my 3 to go and the last one graduates this year. He has good income so I don't think he would qualify for something based on low income but he is maxed out and I help pay things for him til he can get a grip on high credit card debt his scores are in the mid to upper 600's nothing negative ever. Where would I start to steer him he ask tonight and I have no clue so instead of me feeling guilty and paying for him to go to college please let me know if you can help.

thank you

Has your nephew done a FAFSA application yet?? That would be the first step to find out what he is eligible for. His financial aid department at his school is a wealth of information.

Are you looking for aid for the upcoming fall semester? The FAFSA deadline is July 2. The amount of aid you will qualify for is based on the student and parent's earnings and net worth. Even if you don't qualify for grant money, you can still get guaranteed student loans, regardless of credit. The clock is ticking.....

dazz, please .. I know you're trying to be helpful, but I (and the others who come here) would appreciate it if you didn't pass along inaccurate information. I'm sure this is a mistake, but you've made a few comments that were incorrect or misleading, and on this board, that can be dangerous.

Thanks.

I really don't know what your point is, but this forum is NOT for "entertainment" purposes. I will moderate this forum as I and the mods/owners/admin see fit, tyvm.

Definetely take that advice on doing the FAFSA and school financial aid office. If he can't get any or enough assistance, he'd have to go to the private sector. Or do the PLUS loan.

I know for the private company I pitch ed loans for, the requirements are 2yrs of proven continous work history, 2 years of credit, and 2 yrs of being a US citizen. From what you tell me, he might qualify, just probably at a higher interest rate.
