Hi. I am in need of a student loan of about $10,000-15,000 for the current school year. I would prefer a loan which will cover not just school but also living expenses and other school-related items, and one where they send the check directly to me (primarily b/c my school is always slow to respond on everything). My mother co-signed with me last year for this through NextStudent/TERI and we were approved no problem. However, I have worked on cleaning my credit up and have gotten my EQ score up to 708. I also work fulltime and my household income (married) is ~45K. I applied through TERI yesterday but was denied (I don't think they pulled EQ)

Is there a company out there who:

1) allows the loan to cover all expenses

2) will send the check to me

3) pull EQ only

Any ideas?

You may want to speak with the financial aid people at your school. They should be able to provide you with several viable options. You may well be able to qualify for a combination of both federal and private student loans.

Even after Federal/State funding, I come up short. And talking to my financial aid office is like talking to a brick wall. They make you wait for 30 minutes to "talk" to them then once you get in, all they say is "I'm sorry theres no money left". Maybe if you would have talked to me 30 minutes ago, there'd be some money!!

Maybe you should make an appointment to talk to someone about alternative funding. The only funds that run out per se are Perkins Loans and scholarships. The other programs never run out of money so obviously you are not asking the right questions.

Ok, I think this is getting off my original question so I will ask again. Is there a lender out there who ONLY pulls EQ and sends the check to me? I have exhausted all other means according to the school.

P.S. - Lynn, I ask all the right questions but it is hard to get a good response from someone who doesn't care much about how "you" are going to pay for school. You would think that they would roll out the red carpet for me since I have already given them WELL over $70,000 over the years.

Sallie Mae pulled EQ for me, but I do not know if they send directly to you or not.

I feel your pain related to a FA office that could care less. Our office is like that and basically told me Im out of luck on finishing an MD degree. So much for support.

Be persistent and you will find a way

It's been my experience that SallieMae will only pull EQ but they will only send an alternative loan check to the school.

If you have your award letter from the school, your school's 'cost of attendance' includes such things as your room & board, books, etc. The aid you are allowed to receive is the cost of attendance. You might ask the school for a budget adjustment if you have extraordinary expenses.

If the school is telling you that you are out of aid, you have either borrowed the federal maximum (such as $18500 if you are a grad student) for the year or you have reached your budget for the year. If you have 'room' in your budget for more money, the school would certify the alt loan.

As far as being out of money Cavaor, the limit for med school is ~ $189k lifetime total.

combined stafford (both sub and unsub) is $189,125 according to my financial aid office letter.

65.6K in Subsidized Stafford loans including all undergrad and graduate borrowing. Remaining in un-sub loans. Unfortuntately, graduate school prior to out of state medical school eats away at your loans very quickly.
