I recieved a letter today from the US DOE about protection of information and what 3rd parties they allow to have personal information. Has anyone else ever received one of these? (Gramm-Leach-Bliley Privacy Act Notice)

I had a defaulted student loan back in the 90's that they took Tax returns for, but has since dropped off my credit reports. Do I have reason to be concerned about this, or am I being paranoid?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Dropping off your credit reports doesnt necessarily mean that you paid it off. It just means that it has been 7 years from the date of last activity.

Check the status of your old loans on www.NSLDS.ed.gov. You need to get a pin number first before you can access. You can check the status there.

The notice explains how they share info about you with others who they do business with. DOE is under a LOT of pressure to get collections up.
