I went directly to each of the CRAs and looked at my free report, but they want ~$10 to look at my scores. Any other options out there?

Also, why would a JDB do an inquiry almost every month? This hurts my score, yes? I'm wondering if they do this as routine to check whether I have anything to go after (i.e. when I buy a house, will they finally sue).

only my fico dot come and equifax gives real fico scores however you cant get EX score. Anyway to answer your question; you can get a free EQ score by signing up for scorewatch on equifax website just make sure u cancel before the 30 day trial ends. Far as TU score goes that one is not free however there should be some codes for you to probably get a discount if u check the sticky on top. if u want a fake tu score u can always try creditkarma.

The big 3 sell FAKO scores. The only place to get real FICO scores is from myfico.com and they cost $15.95 (before the coupon you can find in a sticky around here somewhere) insted of $10.00...and no, there is no way to subscribe and see them at will. Its $16 bucks a pop. Thats for EQ and TU only. EXP has decided that consumers are not worthy of knowing their score and therefore will not allow it to be sold.

EDIT:

As to the JDB hitting your report every month...if its a hard, then yes it hurts. If its a soft then it doesn't.

They do it because it hurts your scores and they want to punish you. They consider it an incentive to making you pay them. Best thing to do is determine whether or not the debt is in or out of SOL and then consider DVing them.

Not that this matters too much, but I really don't think the typical collection agency is trying to "punish" you by pulling a hard inquiry every month. Reason? It costs THEM money every time they pull a hard.

The reason for CA inq's are generally to see if there's any new info on you. For instance, if you open up a motorcycle loan, they'll use this against you when phoning to collect. "Well, I see you've just bought a new motorcycle... do you really think that's a good lesson to teach your kids, to buy a toy when you haven't even paid your old bills?"

Somewhat disagree here. If all they wanted was info, they could just as easily pull a soft. There are no multiple applications for credit here so they only reason for multiple hards in a short period of time would be punitive.

Of course thats just my opinion.

PSECU credit union advertised EX FICO scores IIRC there was a thread on fico forums.

WAMU used to offer bankcard enhanced TU FICO, dead for a year now.

EQ ran a freeficoscore promotion last year, you are eligible for the free score just once every twelve months but looks like the promo is dead (no free scores this January when I checked their site).

Free trial of different FICO services like myfico.

Otherwise it's $$ and discount codes are in one of the stickies.

Personally I wouldn't pay $$ for the score unless I am loan (mtg/auto) shopping.

FREE and F.I.C.O. don't mix

(except on very rare occasion)
