  1. I was active duty Army for 24 years and retired October '10. When I was in I had a government card. I know I cut it up but don't remember if I did anything to get rid of the account. Last week I received another card from out of nowhere, not sure how they even got my address but I'm know that's easy. I am not going to activate it nor do I need another card, but out of curiosity I was wondering what would happen if I actually used it. It's not like I can be court martialed by the Army or anything haha. Just wondering.
  2. Ok, I understand that part. The CC isn't showing yet. In any case, I'm still confused about navcheck. Now it sounds like if I have a navcheck account with 8K requested I cannot actually get 8K in cash like I thought. Say if I wanted to get 5K from it with zero in my checking acct. How do I do that without having checks for it? I'm probably just having a brain lock and missing something obvious, and I did do a search
  3. Right now I have to take my CC out of the equation because I may not get it in time. I have to plan to get the money from navcheck. Now I'm confused about how I do this.
  4. My checking acct there has zero balance. I'm still using my Chase account. So in that case I assume I can just go into the NCFU branch and write a normal check for 8K to my NCFU checking acct? Had no idea. Learn more everyday. Thanks!
  5. Will do. I thought I could use my regular checks. Thanks.
  6. Yep. I am supposed to get the card in 7-10 days, 10 days would be too late. And I have no clue what my cash advance limit will be. If that ends up being a lower interest rate maybe I can use the card to pay off the navcheck. But I'll worry about that later!
  7. OMG, for the first time in months I'll be able to sleep. To make it short, I was looking at foreclosure of my house I'm selling and a lawsuit from the buyers (long story). I had to come up with literally thousands in a short period of time to meet closing next week or I was DONE. In December I opened a NFCU account and applied for a consumer loan. Shot down because of my DTI. I paid off an auto loan and got a good civilian job. I retired from the Army right before I moved BTW. I then tried to get a loan from a few other places, shot down. Chase wouldn't even approve me for a CC and my fico is still good. Decided to give NFCU one more shot. Applied for a nRewards Visa a few days ago. Just found out I got a 12K limit! But that wouldn't help, I needed 8K in cash ASAP. Went into the branch at 0800 this morning and applied for a navcheck account in that amount. The lady said I would find out if it was approved in 24-48 hours. ARRRG! Went online a bit ago to check and......................... APPROVED! NFCU has me for life and if it wasn't for CB I would have never heard of them.
  8. Hmmm, I app'd on Saturday and got approved sometime beteewn yesterday and this morning. Says nothing about CL. Do you know your cash advance limit?
  9. I just checked the status of my app for the same card from them and it's been approved but doesn't say what my CL is. When did you find out your CL? Can you call to get it or do I have to wait? And do you know how much cash advance you can take out on it?
  10. Kind of off topic, but does Navy check into who you put down as your employer? I just opeed an account and want to apply for a Visa. I recently retired from the military and not working yet. Afraid I might get shot down if I just put "retired" as my job.
  11. I'm going to join NFCU. They actually have a branch close to me in Ft Worth so I'm going there today. Cross my fingers!
  12. This is a buyers market. My house is fairly new, and there are many brand new homes in that area for the same price as mine. My advantage is landscaping is done, appliances included, blinds, ect. Everyone is offering buyers no closing. That's just the way it is right now. I owe what it's worth and that's what the prospect is offering, minus closing costs. I just retired from the military and my income is half of what it was two months ago. Right now my problem with a personal loan is debt to income ratio, even though I want the loan to get out of the mortgage. I did apply for a Chase card, checked my scores and they're up to the 660's but I don't know if that will be enough for the credit line I need. I did apply to PSECU yesterday so we'll see about that. My last resort will be to try to get a payoff loan from BOA who holds the mortgage but that might hold up the whole deal for who knows how long.
  13. I know this is an old topic, but it's the only one I found on this subject and something I may need to try. It's called a short payoff. I moved out of my house, missed my last two mortgage payments and may have found a seller. I would be only a few thousand in the hole. From what I understand it's like a personal loan and wouldn't hit your credit like a short sale would since you would be paying off the debt. I read nothing about needing equity in the home. I'm trying to get an unsecured personal loan as a first option, but I'm only bringing in half monthly from what I was two months ago and lenders are seeing my mortgage account in addition to the rent on my new place so it's not easy. Even though I want the loan to get out of the mortgage. If anyone has experience in this please respond.
  14. Probably haha. But with the foreclosure halt deal maybe they've stopped reporting delinquent accounts as well? Just checking to see if anyone knew what was up. Hope it stays like it is until I sell the dang thing. I was expecting to take a credit hit, hopefully I can dodge that bullet.
  15. Wouldn't I have to open a bank account with them? They're 2000 miles away so unless I don't need to they would be out of the question.
