They did this to me as well with those exact same inquiries TWO times within 30 days of each other at the end of 2009. I called them up and raised cane because I had not requested anything from them or even used the card in over 6 months at the time. They first gave me the excuse that they had permissable purpose because I had an account with them and it was just a standard AR to which called BS on and replied that if that was the case then I had "permissbale purpose" to go ahead and close my account becuase they hurt my credit score for no good reason when they could easily do an AR via a soft. They ended up transferring me first to a supervisor then to the fraud department where I was given a different story about how they had done it because if suspicious and possibly fraudulent activity on my card. Obiously they were just making up excuses unless one of my SOCKS the card shared a drawer with decided to do some internet shopping all of a sudden via my credit card! So I asked if any authorizations had been made, or if there had been declined attempts to use my card, or even if anyone had been trying unsuccessfully to log into my HSBC online account, all of which they answered no. They never could produce a valid reason why they had hard pulled my credit so they ended up giving me a fax number for their "Credit Rating Department" and asked me to fax over a letter detailing the issue and that I wanted them to delete the inquiries. Seems a little strange they said it was due to "suspicious activity" yet oddly it was their credit rating derpartment that would have to fix it don't ya think? The inquiries ended up coming off but honestly I don't know of they took them off or if they came off by some other "magical" means but as soon as they did I just closed the account to keep it from happening again. I tried to find that fax number for you but honestly couldn't but I bet if you got a supervisor on the phone they could give it to you and you may have the same success I did. Good luck with it though, it was frustrating to say the least.

Man that stinks! I pretty much maxed out my card with BT's so if/when it reports it's gonna hurt

Just checked Exp backdoor and my Guide Dogs is NOT reporting and man I hope it stays that way (though I'm not too hopeful at this point)

No, never have done an online dispute. Always via mail only so I never did understand how they got that info.

I pulled my Innovis a while back for the first time ever and was surprised to see that the exact same accounts I had in dispute with the big three also showed as in dispute on there. I had only disputed them with the CRA's themselves, not any of the original creditors. I had never ever had any contact with Innovis nor disputed any info of any kind with them yet they were almost a mirror of my other reports. It seemed like they just copied that info from my other reports.

You know, I have the Hooter's MC with that same awesome $500 CL (which I wish I hadn't opened now) so I like the idea of disputing it off but how would you do so without negative side effects like a fraud alert or something? Seems like if it's all positive reporting the only way to dispute it would be as "not mine" which I have always read can lead to disastrous results.

Hi I need some informed advice please. I may have the need to back out of a contract for a house we were going to build and want to know what this might mean as far as consequences. We were looking at starting construction around March and were shooting for a target close date of late September and due to this we are still in the very early stages of everything. So far we have put up a small amount of earnest money and signed the initial contracts both for the builder and for the financing. Other than that we have done almost nothing else, we haven't even finalized the builders plans for the house yet. For reasons I won't go into in too much detail about, I am now realizing we may want to back out of this deal because the builder seems to keep changing their story and some major things are not as they were represented in the beginning of this whole thing so I want to be prepared just in case we choose to back out. I would really prefer not to but its becoming more and more clear it may be necessary. I realize the earnest money is probably forfeit but am I liable for anything else at all at this point or is it kind of like a car, where it isn't a done and binding deal until you have signed the final paperwork? Can they sue me for anything since nothing has been done yet (so they aren't out any money) aside from picking upgrades and the lot we want?

So now that I can see new reports I can confirm they hard pulled TU but oddly they soft pulled EX as well. I do know from previous conversations with Barclay's that one of the biggest things to them is utilization. When I apped originally they told me on recon they want to see 20% or lower.

I called today (866-408-4064) and got a CLI on my Carnival card as well! They bumped me 1k from 2500 to 3500. She did say it would be a hard pull but I don't know which they pulled for me yet but I do know it wasn't EX. Probably TU which is what they pulled originally. Very nice lady asked about HHI, my balances on other cards (currently under 20% util overall), and what I use the card for. I told her I use it for all daily charges and PIF every month and I like to get the rewards. I actually asked for 1500 but I figured that was a stretch on a 2500 limit card so I was happy with the 1k they gave me. Also, for those that have the Carnival card, they are changing from "SeaMiles" to "FunPoints" and sending out new cards due to this change. It appears that Barclay's is splitting it's relationship with SeaMiles and going with their own point system. As far as I can tell, this is a GOOD change because you can now purchase your cruise anywhere and apply your "points" to a statement credit. I hated the old way of having to buy thru SeaMiles to get a small discount on a heavily inflated cruise price when you could just book it for far cheaper anywhere else. Thanks Jaymes for the update in this thread, I wouldn't have called them otherwise!

Yeah, a pukey face is definitely in order here. I am SOO not looking forward to whatever is about to rear it's nasty head on me. ARGH!

FYI... I asked the mortgage guy why it was this company that showed up on the inquiry and was told that they use NCO as their service to pull CR's and scores.
