There are a list of rules on what the loan can be used for. I'm not sure how it would cover this kind of expense. If it's directly needed for a class, that may be covered. You should check the details with Wells Fargo. Check with your employer as well, since mine reimburses ALL class expenses (tuition, books, materials), though you get screwed after $5200 when it becomes taxable income. That unfortunately equates to like 1.5 classes where I would take them :|. FWIW, you shouldn't need to spend any money on ANY software to learn web design, or you're getting screwed. Not to mention the school should provide labs you can work in with the software, so be careful before you spend money you don't need to. There is a thriving open source community around web development that can provide all the tools you need and more. Adobe Photoshop and Dreamweaver may be nice to have, but you don't need them.

I want to payoff specific Sallie Mae Loans - one at a time.

This depends on what your payment plan is. If you are sending in a payment for every loan individually then you certainly could. The loan summary doesn't show us how you are paying the loans. -
I don't think you all need to get too hasty about getting rid of your reduced payment plan. I will certainly do that if I need to, but from the people I've talked to, I believe this is a mistake and will eventually be fixed. So for now I'm sitting tight for a week and will start calling again then if I don't have any updates. See my posts here for what I've heard: http://creditboards.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=336187 If you want to talk to someone at SM that knows something, your best bet is to call the Consumer Advocate Unit, but expect that they are probably going to be getting a very high call volume for a while.

I think the consensus here is that this is an error. I called just when this problem started hitting and the rep hadn't heard about it. I believe people that have called since then have gotten more of an acknowledgement that it is an error. myfico told me it was an error and they are working with SM on it. My plan is is to give them a week to sort things out and get my call-backs. If there's no update by then, I will start calling again and do whatever is necessary.

They sent me a notice saying I could upgrade my platinum to Signature for free with no credit check, so I accepted. I got the card 2 weeks later, it was a Signature...

Okay folks, good news. I contacted myfico.com over the phone and apparently they are getting a large volume of complaints and they are escalating the issue. The woman stated that it is an error and they are trying to resolve it with Sallie Mae. The person there took my contact info and said they would get back to me. It's probably not a bad idea for everyone to call themselves, just to make sure this get fixed properly...

My score watch report now shows a whole lot of red: This one little notation gave me "Serious deliquencies," "past due balances" and "recent missed payments". The hilarious part is that in the Credit-at-a-Glance section, if flags '0 late payments' as being a problem.

See my post here, I called the Consumer Advocate Unit: http://creditboards.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=336187

I just contacted the Customer Advocate Unit. The person there stated that they just had some new rules go into effect that allow them to report differently. Looking at my loans, I have 'Grad Choice 2' on my federal loans, which is a few dollars less or something. Since my parents did the original loans I never even chose to do this. In fact, I've been making larger payments than the amount due anyway. Person says she'll get back to me in a week. I will be fighting this. I don't have a problem with switching to the regular payment plan, but this doesn't seem right. I'm imagine not all of you have the same luxury...

Kevin, I don't think it has anything to do with previous stuff. There are several people now on this board including me who have gotten this today. SM is pulling something... I haven't touched the account.

I got THE SAME thing. 103 points down! I had 713 EQ (my lowest score by far of the 3) now at 610! Sallie Mae is pulling a fast one. There will be hell to pay... assuming that I can get through to someone who's not in India. I'm calling again...
-
I'm pretty sure you just stole that from my credit score I just got an alert today saying my score dropped 103 points... um. Yeah. Somehow my Sallie Mae loans just started showing that I made arrangements to make partial payments, which is completely bogus. Sigh. Give me back my points!

What an efficient government we have! The original date for my refund was 5/9, then they were a week early and going to do it 5/5. Instead, I got it today, Saturday, 5/3!

Are you in the highest last-digit SS# category, maybe? That's all I can think of, if there is a pattern to this. Those won't be going out for another week. Has anyone with a May 12 date seen it show up in the database?

Worked for me. "Your payment of $600.00 is scheduled to be deposited to your bank on May 5, 2008. " Keep in mind I filed in February, though.
