Anybody?

More info here, I am dealing with CVF Consumer Acquisition, that is who my credit report says I should contact. CVF is not licensed in my state but Resurgent is (and apparently they are affiliated with each other). Do I have a case with Cvf not being licensed in Arkansas?

I've got a baddie on my reports that is out of SOL. The OC is not even on my reports anymore, that is how old this is. The JDB will NOT go away. I have disputed and got a removal from one bureau but they are reporting false info to the other 2. I have written to the JDB but they have not responded to my letters. They keep increasing the amount I allegedly owe and keep updating and verifying to EQ and EX. I'm ready to sue but I don't know what the next step is. I've got all my ducks in a row, copies of communications, receipts for certified letters, etc. Do I need to find out the method of validation from EX and EQ next? Or does that even matter at this point? Should I go to the AG or BBB before filing suit? I've got them on about 5 or so violations at this point. They obviously think I'm all bark and no bite, but they are about to discover they are wrong.

I've got a big baddie on my reports that I just recently disputed as obsolete and got it removed from my CR. The problem I am having now is with the junk debt buyer. OC is off my reports, the SOL expired 5 years ago. I sent the CA a letter that was basically FOAD. I got 2 letters back from them in response. The first letter was a "verification" of debt, their words, not mine. I never asked them for verification or for validation. But the verification they sent me is a friggin joke. Here is what they sent: "CVF Consumer Aquisition COmpany currently owns account number ********. This account was originated by MBNA and recently acquired from NCO Portfolio Management. At that time, the balance was $14,369.84. As of the date of this communication, the account balance is $14,827.66. Because interest, payments, credits, fees, and/or other permissible charges can continue to cause the accoutn balance to vary from day to day, you should contact us at 1-800-****** to determine the exact balance." Then the next day they sent a letter that states that they are reviewing the information I sent them (the FOAD letter) but they haven't been able to contact me to discuss the matter. Then they say if I don't call them within 21 days they will resume collection activity. I know that they cannot do what they are doing. They are out of SOL and the original creditor has aged off my reports. Is my next step an ITS, my AG, the BBB or all of the above? In case it matters, the letters are from Resurgent on behalf of CVF. They have not mentioned the dates on the account and they keep updating on my credit reports an increasing balance that just seems arbitrary to me, $400 extra one day, another $9 the next.

I am back, updating as promised! Thanks to mca's list, we were able to find a bank that let us open checking and savings accounts. Did not even check Chex or EWS, it all went amazingly smoothly. I suppose time will tell if they close the accounts but so far, so good!

Thank you mca! I'll keep you posted on my results, it will be a couple of weeks before we can get over to a branch during business hours.

I am in Chex and EWS. Any banks or credit unions in Arkansas available? My zip is 72015.

My daughter just turned 18 last week. She opened a checking account in her own name and has a savings account joint with her dad for a year. She has been working at her job at Target for 1 year, she has her driver's license and will be attending college this fall. Dh and I cannot cosign on anything with her, we have no credit cards so we can't add her as an authorized user. I pulled her credit reports and there was nothing there, as it should be. She quite literally is a clean slate. I want to help her get some credit built up in her name but don't know where to start. Will she have to start with a secured card and if so, who is the best to go through? She could easily put $1000 into a secured card but will that help her? Should she just try for a Target red card since she works there? Or will that even matter since she has NO credit at this point.

Today I got the letter from Direct Loans saying they will be paying off the lenders in 10 days. So, I don't know if it was a glitch or if they have changed the rules but apparently you can consolidate after garnishment without going through rehab first. This is such a relief for us. The garnishment was taking $600 every month and now our payment will be around $250.

Does anyone know if Orchard is still around? I tried to apply on their website and when I click to start the application it's like that part of the website is gone. I've even tried clicking on the affiliate link here at CB and it takes me to the same dead link. Is this just a temporary issue and I picked a bad day to try to do this or is it gone for good?

I wanted to update my status on this. Today the garnishment was not taken out of my check and they refunded the amount from last week. The Direct Loans status still says it is in cert status but the fact that the garnishment stopped seems like a really good sign.

Fingers crossed! I'll be sure to update when I hear something.

Never mind, I found it in the Higher Ed Act. Now to figure out if that has been changed.

Could you direct me to the regs that initially stated this? I've been searching and can find nothing. I've actually applied for a Direct Loans consolidation and the status says this: As of today, August 28, 2010, your combined app/P-note application is in cert status. Your loan consolidation application/promissory note was received on July 16, 2010. We sent a request to your current lenders on August 6, 2010 for the exact payoff amount of your loans. When we receive a response, we will mail you a loan statement indicating loans ready for payoff. I've been garnished for a couple of years already and was hoping to get some relief from this. Please forgive me for hijacking. I can make a separate post if necessary.

We found out that my husband is not listed in Chex so he went with her and helped her open an account today.
