I am asking this question for my mom. She has a Chase card that has gotten 5 months behind on payments (many issues that led to this, but now she just wants to do the best she can with the situation). Chase wants her to pay all the back payments PLUS late/overlimit fees...yet they still refuse to lower the interest rate from 29.99% (OUCH!). She has the funds to pay maybe half of the total balance which is $3200. Here are my questions: 1. Will a settlement damage her credit any worse than being over 5 months past due? If so, how much? 2. Is it probable to get Chase to settle for 50%? 3. If a settlement is not a good idea, is there anyway to convince them to reduce the interest rate and get on a payment plan that is affordable? 4. Is there any way to go about removing this from her credit? She has awesome credit otherwise, with many other credit cards that have never even been late once. This one messed up account is the only bad mark she has. Thanks!

My husband and I filed Chapter 7 and were discharged on August 26th 2010. I have checked my credit reports, and all my private student loans show up as $0 balance and "included in Bankruptcy". My federal loan still shows up on the credit report and states "in deferment". I also logged on to AES's website to check on my balances there. Two of my loans have a $0 balance on there. One states "paid in full" and the other "claim paid". All the others say "repayment" but when I go into details view it doesn't have a date in the "next payment due" space. These were all TERI loans, if that makes a difference. What do you think is going on? Did they actually get discharged?

Is there such a thing? We had to sell our last house via short sale but the bank (CitiMortgage) required us to get behind on payments before they would even consider it. Because of these lates, we cannot get a house for 3 full years (120+ days by the time the house sold...so it looks like a foreclosure I'm told). The reason for the short sale was because of a huge paycut (almost 1/2) combined with a property tax mixup (which resulted in a $500/mo inflation on our mortgage). We have NEVER been late before that, and the only other late we have on either report is one 30 day from Discover when we first moved and the bill didn't get forwarded (I could probably goodwill this one too?). Is it possible (or probable) that we could goodwill Citimortgage and get the lates taken off so that we can get another mortgage? If so, any suggestions on what to include in the goodwill letter would be appreciated. If a goodwill wouldn't work, is there anything else we can do to get a mortgage before the 3 years are up?

I am in Indiana. I didn't even get to fill out paperwork for admission until after my son was born. He was born just 23 minutes after pulling up at the front door, so there was no time for it beforehand. I guess the notice of assistance could have been part of the admission paperwork, but I was a little pre-occupied with my newborn son so I was just signing where I was supposed to I had delivered at that hospital before and figured I had signed it all before anyways. I didn't get a copy of any of it though, and my discharge paper has nothing on it about assistance. So you think it is possible to still get the assistance even though the account has gone to collections? I will call up the hospital again tomorrow and ask for patient relations...and cross my fingers!

I did not request assistance...didn't know that was an option. I called the hospital when I got the collection letter and as soon as they pulled up my account they simply said "we cannot help you, you must call xxx-xxx-xxxx and set things up with the collection agency." Didn't even give me a chance to ask any other questions. I'm pretty sure we'd meet any income guidelines for assistance, but how do I go about finding out when the hospital won't talk to me? Should I send a copy of the collection letter with a letter asking for assistance to the hospital?

I had a baby May 2008. Got the bills in July 2008. Total due was around $6000...split between 2 accounts (1 for me, one for my son). Called the hospital to ask about payment options, and the lowest payments they could offer me was $350/mo. I have no way to afford that, so I was sending them $50/mo (I was under the impression that as long as I was sending them something that they couldn't do anything...am I wrong?) Two days ago (November 15, 2008) I received 2 separate letters in the mail from a collection agency (Med Shield), stating that the account has been forwarded to them for collection. I tried calling the hospital again, but all they said was that I have to call Med Shield regarding the account...it is no longer in their hands. I know better than to call the CA (thanks to these forums). The letters from Med Shield give a space to tell the reason why the account has not been paid...do I fill those out or should I go about things a different way? I cannot pay in full, and the most I can afford to pay is $50/month. I am not trying to get out of paying the medical bills and admit they are mine...I just can't afford to pay in full right now. We are in the middle of cleaning up our credit in hopes of qualifying for a mortgage in 2 years and I can't stand the thought of this wrecking my credit after all our previous hard work. What are my options?

Nissan lease questions (negative equity)
laundryqueen replied to laundryqueen's topic in Automotive Financing
How do I make sure that the payments they are quoting me for a 39 month lease are good though? I don't understand how they come up with lease payment amounts. Basically, the salesman could come back and tell me a a good amount for trade in and a great price for the car, but quote me an inflated payment amount. Is there some kind of mathematic formula for figuring lease payment amounts based on these hard numbers? I have done my research to find what the trade in value is and the dealer resale value is on the Quest, and I have also have an amount in mind that is a decent price range for the Altima we are looking at. I would really love to know how to figure out the lease payments based on what we finally agree on and not just by trusting that the dealer is going to give me the right monthly amount. -
Last October we leased a 2007 Nissan Quest (39 month lease). This was after trading in our previous lease on a Nissan Xterra. With gas prices being what they are, we now regret getting the minivan and would like to go back in and do a new lease for either an Altima or a Sentra. I checked and our balance on the Quest is $25.5K. KBB value is 20Kish trade in and ~25K dealer resale. So (not sure how a deal would figure this exactly) we are somewhere between $500-$5K in negative equity to roll into a new lease (or purchase if that is better). The Altima we found has a sticker price of $22K (and of course a Sentra would be cheaper if we went that route). After talking to the salesman and letting him talk to his manager, we are told they can get us into an Altima for "within a few dollars" of our current monthly payment ($460...which I am beginning to wonder if that amount was somewhat of a rip off after reading some other posts on here). This seems very high to me..I know we have negative equity that must be rolled in, but I can't help but feel bad about this deal. When I asked the salesman over the phone for some hard numbers, he said he couldn't provide anything to me until we sit down to fill out some paperwork. I understand that credit scores are taken into account, but when signing the paperwork for our last lease with Nissan we were told that because we have perfect payment history with them for the past 4 years that they don't even pull our credit...we are automatically considered 1st Tier. Anyone have any suggestions/opinions/input on this situation? Does that payment sound high? Does it sound like we are getting messed with a bit by the salesman?

What credit score for Private loan consolidation?
laundryqueen replied to laundryqueen's topic in Student Loans
Thats what I am afraid of....needing a cosigner. My husbands credit is worse than mine, so he won't be much help...and besides lowering my payment one of the main things I am trying to do is get my grandma off my loans (she cosigned for 2 of them) because AES sends all kinds of duplicate paperwork about the loans and she is always getting stressed that they want her to pay something. I hope I am able to improve my score to at least a 680 soon so that I can get them consolidated... -
What card(s)? 650 score with mortgage late
laundryqueen replied to laundryqueen's topic in Credit Forum
I called up Capital One and Merrick this morning to request a CLI...was told by both that they do not review for CLI on demand from consumers, but rather on a yearly basis. I did find out that Merrick increased my CL to $2000 in March, so thats a little something...however they have me at an outrageous APR and again will not review upon my request for a better APR. So, should I go ahead and apply for a new credit card? If so, which card(s) would you suggest given my information? I don't want to go on an app spree and drag down my score with Inquiries, but I would like to find a new card or two to increase my available credit and hopefully help out my score in the future. Ideally I would like to find a card with some kind of rewards which I can use for monthly groceries/gas and pay in full every month to rack up some rewards. -
