Paid medical collection under Daughters name
gpclan replied to gpclan's topic in Medical Billing & Medical Collections
Also need to add that in order to get her an appt the following year, had to pay OC. So OC was paid, the collection agency was never paid -
Hi- Took my daughter at age of 19 to the female doctor and insurance did not cover the entire visit. $167 supposedly (I believe I paid more than that) went into collections under her name even though she is covered under my husbands insurance. If anything, it should've been reported on my husbands credit. I ended up paying it, so now it shows as "Paid in full" but it of course is a ding on her credit report! What is the best avenue to get this possibly off of her credit reports? Thanks Gpclan

Thanks for the replies. The BIL that supposedly NEEDS the money is only looking at the quick fix of getting more money right now IMHO. The financial saavy other BIL is in communication with someone at T Rowe regarding my FIL's account. Which is good, because I don't have the time. The money in the account actually has gone up $2000.00 in the past few days, so my instant thought is to let it sit at least to get back up where it was, he can't afford to live on the 20-25,000 he has left out of the life insurance? She's a certified nurse practioner, there are hundreds of jobs out there right now for nursing, and good money, I guess I just don't understand where he's coming from. And the fact that they all just got $50,000 in life insurance 5 months ago.... I just went back to work full time this past July and was about a week short of qualifying for 401K enrollment for 01/09. I don't think I'm eligible until 2010 which stinks. My hubby is in a union and doesn't have a 401k, he contributes to an annuity. I just look at the tax implications (bad enough hubby and I are in a higher tax bracket now that we're both working). I mean, it may be great for him tax wise, because they're in a lower tax bracket, but my DH and I are going to take the hit just for him? I guess there's deeper emotional issues going on, it just seems with trying to sell FIL's house, lowering that price, taking money out before the majority wants....I feel like we're just losing money left and right and jumping the gun. My husband now regrets taking out all of the life insurance. It was getting 4% interest, and that money should've been paying the mortgage to FIL's house. Unfortunately, alot of them needed the money from either taking the time off of work because he was ill and/or losing one's job at the time. Hindsight, we should've left at least half of the life insurance money in the account to pay for the house.....but nobody listened to me when I suggested it. Now everyone is silently freaking out on how they're going to contribute to this mortgage when it was "oh no problem" a few months ago. Reality has set in I guess. Do you think if it gets split into 4 separate accounts that hubby and I should leave ours in there? Thanks, gpclan

Thanks for all the replies. On the letter, I didn't provide any information (name, phone or addy) but duh me, my husband was listed on the death certificate. I will send out a second letter with a C & D. Should I get it notarized? Will that help? We'll see how that works.

Good evening- My FIL passed away in Oct. 08. He had multiple cc's and some hospital bills. The house was put into a trust, no estate. Whatever cash he had in the bank has been spent paying on the house, in which come this month, we are all contributing out of our own pockets to pay the mortgage until it sells. I sent each creditor (along with the bill) a certified copy of his death certificate along with a letter that stated "The debtor of this account is deceased. There is no estate" So, what kind of response did I get? Well, since my hubby is listed on the death certificate (he's the oldest of 4) now all of his bills come to MY house with "The Estate of...." asking us to pay. Did I say there was no estate? My BIL had gotten a car that my FIL financed for him, he let them repo it. I sent a death certificate to 5/3 bank. What did they send me in return? A new payment book with "The estate of...." LOL Ok, I'll get right on it. I sent a death notice to the newspaper, now they deliver the newspaper to my door.....LOL They call my house everyday. My machine is full within 3 days. What else can I do? Is there an effective letter to send? I'm afraid they're going to start putting things on my hubby's credit reports. Thanks for any advice you may have, gpclan

Good Evening- Haven't posted in CB for a while, lots going on in life lately. Couple different things going on: My FIL passed away in October 08. All 4 boys inherited the 401K. Due to the economy, and the 401K was currently on a losing streak and the fact that we have 5 years to cash it out, we all agreed to leave it for now (that was back in Nov 08). Now, all of a sudden, one BIL wants to cash it out (It's at about $36,000, in conservative things, seems to be picking up). After taxes (ouch) we may all walk away with about $6000 each. Why not just let it sit? Let it recoup at least back to the original $40,000 when we inherited it? He says he needs the money....Ok, you just got a portion of the life insurance money 5 months ago (each got about $50,000). And you say you have $20-25,000 left....what is $6000 going to get you? He says he can make more investing in a CD....His wife just got laid off, but she's a nurse practitioner and can temp, etc. He quit his job last year so she could pursue her career (he said she was going to make more money than he would, but yet hasn't held down a job more than 3 months) And he sits at home and watches too much CNBC and CNN (Mad Money and Suze Orman) and I guess is freaking out? My other BIL said that if he wants to cash out, then it all gets divided into separate accts or we all have to cash out? I just feel like we're losing money left and right and we should tell him "NO". I just don't think it's worth it.... Any suggestions on how we can convince him to leave it in there? Sorry for the rambling, I'm just so ticked off right now! Any advice is welcome, Thanks, gpclan

Great idea. I think that's one of my only worries to this whole thing. Their uncle had a falling out w/his sister over a cottage and it was a real shame because the uncle is the one that put most of the work into the place. Thanks again for the advice, off to look up some info on LLC's. gpclan

My SIL's parents own 8 acres 15 mins from Lake Geneva on a chain of lakes where the homes are well over $350,000+ The land is not waterfront, but is a quick walk down to their pier & beach and the subdivision has beautiful homes in it. We spent all day there yesterday to check it out and the kids and everyone had a great time! They'd like to sell us (the whole family) 2.5 acres which are beautiful and already equipped with electric and water for only $80,000. Researching other lots in that area, 1/2 acres are going for $75000 nowhere near the water. We'd like to purchase it as a family, with all 4 brother contributing to the monthly mortgage. What should our process be? Should we first come up with a roundabout figure and plans to build and then find a mortgage? How does it work with buying property and getting a construction loan? Thanks for any and all suggestions! gpclan

Today the phone rings and I see it's Countrywide Fin. I answer and they ask for DH and I say he's not in, can I leave a message. He says yes and starts going into a speil about how we're one of their recent customers and we've been paying on time since and he'd like to see about maybe getting a better rate on our mortgage (it's an 2 yr ARM) I reply, "Well, can you call back in 2 mos?" He says, "Can I do it for you right now?" I say, "Wouldn't it be better to wait until after the original CW mortgage starts reporting?!" Totally caught him off guard! he said, "It's not reporting yet?" (Um, no, it's been 4 mos) "Yeah, that'd probably be a good idea" and thanked me and hung up. DUH gpclan

How AWESOME! Congrats! -
I know! She's 40, and has had credit I would say since she was mid 20's? I was trying to get her to do her Fico's because I was curious! ETA: Not one late payment on all 3 reports (sick I tell ya! LOL) gpclan

I helped her pull her CR's tonight through annualcredit report and this is what it says on her EX: "You have 0 negative accounts" "You have 69 accts in good standing" She didn't care to pull her Fico's, she knows she's well into the 700's Hmph....I never thought I'd idolize my sister in any way, but in this case....*sigh* Someday...I'll be there too! gpclan
