Should I apply for a new credit card? I'm looking to get a mortgage in Feb or March of 2013. My current score is 776 (TU-Fico). How would this affect my score? The fico simulator says not too much, others like Credit Karma say a lot. I really don't need another card, but the two I have are junk cards. They used to be orchard, now Cap 1 and have very low limits ($500, $300) and high annual fees ($79, $39). I have no other debt. No Auto loans, no mortgage, no student loans, etcc. My AAOA is 3yrs 3 months and my Oldest tradeline is 4 yrs 10 months. I have no negative tradelines. (came a long way in last 6 months, thanks to you). Utilization is 2% but with such low limits can change quickly. i'm keeping the Cap 1's until I get a mortgage then will likely dump them. So, should I apply for new credit at this time or not? Any recomendations for a good card?

My biggest concerns are only having two tradelines and the short history, 5 years. I also have a loan from my 401k. I defaulted in 2008 and it still shows on my 401k account. I owe 2800 ish. Is this something I would be required to pay before getting a mortgage. It's not on any credit report and I counted it as income and payed the tax penalty in the year it defaulted. I suppose I will pay it just to avoid any questions about it. I can document everything easily.

Looking to purchase in 4-6 months or as soon as I can save a more substantial down payment. Looking for a 15- year mortgage or max 20 year. What are my chances now? or in 6 months with additional 12K? Taxes and Insurance seem to be cheap here. I looked on the web and 2011 taxes on 200k house in neighborhood I want was 1100. Thanks!

Update: TU clean report 720 Fako EQ clean report 708 Fako EXP deleted the $2k paid collection. Still showing the CAB collection $29. Tried to dispute online as obsolete, wouldn't go through said already investigated. Supposed to fall off report July 2012. 708 Fako. So I'm down from 5 collection across all three reports to just this last one. CC utilization is still high @ 73% but it's a low dollar figure (586) and I can easily pay it off. Should see a boost from that. According to their score estimator a 50 point increase. I guess my next step, other than waiting for this CAB collection to fall off, is to buy a real FICO score to see where I'm actually at. Anyway to buy a score an actual mortgage lender would see? Still six months away from having a solid downpayment.

Update: TU now up to 720 FAKO Equifax deleted both remaining collections. Fako went from 550 to 708. Experian still reporting CAB ($29) which should fall off naturally soon and a paid collection ($2000) Fako @ 637. These scores are with my utilization above 80% so should see a boost when I pay them off. Low limits/high fees I wish I could get rid of these cards. I did receive a response from Experian that said in accordance with Experian's identify theft protection policies , an initial security alert has been added to your credit file. This message will expire 90 days from 06/26/2012. They also shared this info with Equifax and TU. If I prefer to write them I should now include Full name, middle intial, ss#, Gov ID, and recent utility bill with each correspondence. What, if anything, should I do about this? How can I find the date that this paid collection should come off my report? The DOFD was the same as all these accounts 10/2005. This was paid in 2007/2008 by confiscating my South Carolina Tax return. Is that going to reset the clock for the 7.5 years to the date it was paid? Thanks so much for your help Why Chat. I'm really close to getting this all fixed. Just saw that TU added fraud alert on 6/30 from Experian report

Update on my attempt at deleting these medical collections: Mailed Medical DV to Professional Recovery Consultants ($581 Unpaid). They received my letter 5/31 and have no response from them as of today 6/22. I re-disputed with EQ and they received my letter on 6/20. Waiting for response Mailed Medical DV to Medical Revenue Service ($2000 Paid) they sent response posted earlier. Re-disputed with EQ and EXP, received letter 6/20. Waiting for response. My new problem is with Cab collections. The originally had 2 collections listed on my Exp. report ($55), ($29) both from the same date and same creditor. When I sent my initial HIPPA dispute they deleted the $55 collection but verified the second $29 collection. I didn't send a follow up letter because it was showing as scheduled to be removed July 2012 and still shows this on my Exp. report. However, I just got an alert from USAA and now CAB is reporting the collection on Equifax also. It's never been reported before. It shows date reported 6/2012 date of 1st delinquency 10/2005. Seems as though they are doing this out of spite. Both EQ and EXP show consumer disputes this account, medical. What should I do to correct this? Go back and send 1st HIPPA dispute letter to Equifax? Doesn't seem right that they can report this when it's that old and never been reported before. Results so far: TU 3 original collections. All deleted on 1st attempt. Fako score now 718. Exp 5 original collections 3 deleted 2 remain. Fako score 610. Equifax 4 original collections 2 deleted, 1 just added, Fako score tanked 550. My scores still swing up and down with my CC utilization. With the low limit cards I have a few charges can make a big difference and it is really dependent on when in the month I pay and when the new balance reports. I really hope I can get these scores up soon. I need to get a house while rates are so low and home values are depressed. I have about 15K toward a down payment and will have another 12-15 by the end of the year. Need to get those scores up ASAP

I just got a letter from them today saying I owe 29.97. I just cleaned my reports. What should I do to protect myself? Just sending a DV good enough? -
Do not sign up for e-mail dispute resolution. How did they get your e-mail address?? Wait until you have a full response from Eq and Exp before going to the next step: http://www.whychat.5...cavalhipaa.html or http://www.whychat.5...hipaa.html#PAID and then: http://www.whychat.5...aa.html#DISPUTE Received written response to my Equifax dispute. 2 deletions NCO Financial Systems. Same account was reporting twice. Not much info in their letter. each one says same thing. >>> We have researched the collection account. Account ####### The results are: We verified that this item belong to you. If you have additional questions about this item please contact: Professional Recovery-Cons >>> We have researched the collection account. Account ####### The results are: We verified that this item belong to you. If you have additional questions about this item please contact: Medical Data Systems. The Medical Data Systems is a paid account ($2000) that's reporting on EQ and EXP. They seized my South Carolina tax refund to pay this off. I will wait to see what EXP response is and then send in dispute. The PRC is unpaid. ($581) and only reporting on EQ. My employer (UPS) called an ambulance to transport me to hospital when I had a kidney stone. I was on the road a couple hours away from my center. Gave my insurance info to EMS but they never filed, or my insurance has no record of it. All of these collections are related to that incident. I will mail dispute letter to PRC this week.

Update: EQ: 4 collections. 2 were deleted. 2 still reporting a paid collection from 10/2005 and an unpaid $581 from 10/2005. I was successful getting the address associated with these account deleted. I thought that would help get them removed more easily. They mailed my results on 5/9 so I should get the results any day now. My score dropped 40 pts. WTF is up with that? EXP: unchanged 3 remaining collections estimated to drop off 6/12 per experian. TU: all deleted. Looks like EQ is going to be the tough one.

Small Update: TU 3 collections all deleted. EXP 5 collections 2 deleted. 3 remain. CAB Collections $55, $29, and one paid collection still reporting EQ 4 collections 0 deleted. Credit report says CONSUMER DISPUTES - REINVESTIGATION IN PROGRESS -MEDICAL Still on second step, haven't received any written response from any of the CRAs However, did get an email from EQ wanting me to use online dispute. "Your most recent Equifax reinvestigation has been started. This process can take up to 30 days to complete. For faster delivery of your results, you can now receive the results of your investigation online. To accept receipt of the results of your investigation online, please click on this hyperlink: Seems to be going well so far. Even with the 2 deletions my EXP score didn't go up. My credit cards are still not showing updated balance. One hasn't updated since 04/04/12 and I've made two payments since then.

TransUnion deleted all of my medical collections as of today. Thanks WhyChat. Experian and Equifax have yet to respond. My TU score went from 591 to 686. However my credit cards are still at 95% UTI. Still haven't reported my new balances, but it should anyday now. Hope to be above 700 when that happens. I'm hoping that Exp. and EQ goes as easily as TU did. Experian should fall off next month anyway. So, thanks again.
