  1. Thanks for your replies. They just started this 15.00 monthly service fee. I sure don't need them that bad. It showed up on my statement this month, so I had to pay it. As soon as it posts, I will close it. It seems that most of what I read about people having problems closing their accounts involves secured accounts.
  2. Hello I have a credit card with Applied Bank that i have had since 2005. I now have decent credit scores and can get much better cards. I want to close this card and would like to get opinions about the best way. I owe no balance, and have never been late with a payment. This is a regular credit card, not a secured card. I have really never had any problems with this company, except for the 15.00 monthly fee they have recently started charging!!! And not reporting to EQ. Looking on the internet, there are a lot of people who seem to have a lot of problems with this company, but on the other hand they gave me a card when no one else would. What would be the best way to close this card, call them or send a letter? (registered?) I would appreciate any feedback from anyone who has had this card and closed it. I would like to have it show as closed by me and not by credit grantor. I guess the horror stories I read about this company have me more than a little concerned that there will be a problem.
  3. After reading all of this, I am definately having second thoughts about applying for Amex. I checked the pre-approval site a few days ago, and it says I am pre-approved for all of the charge cards and several of the credit cards. I was about to apply for the blue cash card, but I do not need this kind of hassle. I am a member of USAA and now NFCU. I think I will go with one or both of their cards. As consumers, I think we should never put up with arrogance from companies we do business with.
  4. "I got a hard inquiry on Equifax to open a checking account" Have other people gotten a hard inquiry to open an account? I thought they did not do this. My wife and I applied for an account last week. We got a letter today asking for photo id to be mailed or faxed to them. No inquiry so far, but we really do not want one since we will be applying for a mortgage in the not too distant future.
  5. After reading everything I could about NFCU, I decided that my wife and I would apply today. She is retired DOD, so is eligible. We went through all of the screens, and even gave the info to fund the account from our USAA account. (We are full members with USAA). It then said that they would contact us in 5 to 7 days. ??? I tried to go back and check the app id number it gave us, and it said: We are unable to process your request online at this time. Please try again later or CLICK HERE to download a membership application. Please complete, print, sign, and mail the application to Navy Federal or call toll-free 1-888-842-6328 to speak with a call center representative or visit a branch office. Navy Federal Credit Union P.O. Box 3000 Merrifield, VA 22119-3000 It will be next week before we can call. All I can think of is they cannot verify something, because my wife definately should qualify as a retired civilian employee of the Dept. of the Army.
  6. Anyone? I am still trying to decide the best way to approach this. Should all medical disputes be done using HIPAA? I was concerned because these are on Experian, and it seems people have a lot of trouble with them. I thought there might be another approach since it has been nine years since dates of service, and maybe we could get rid of them based on their age. I don't know how the DOFD is determined by a hospital, but it should be obsolete now. Also, I am considering contacting an attorney, but I really just want these collections to go away. I don't want to do anything that will cause trouble for a later HIPAA dispute. I appreciate any help and advice.
  7. Hello I looked up the collection agency that filed these collections on my wife's EX report. I looked on the website of the Arizona Department of Financial Institutions, and they do not seem to be licensed in AZ. I don't know what the law is on licensing. The hospital that is the OC is in TX, and the CA's office is in TX, but we lived in AZ at the time the collections accounts were filed. The CA obviously knew we lived in AZ because the address verification number on the credit report matches our address at the time. We have never received any mail or phone call from this company. I don't know if this means anything, I'm trying to find anything that might help. Thanks for your help.
  8. Hello I recently found these forums while searching for info on medical collections. I have been reading for about a week, it's a lot to take in. I'm hoping to get advice on this situation. On my wifes Experian report, there are two medical collections we didn't recognize. They were dated from 2006, and were for a hospital in the town we used to live in, but we have not lived in that area since 2003. I wrote the hospital listed as original creditor and asked who this was for and the dates of service. They answered within a week and included the itemized billing statements. It appears to be the copays we owed for my wifes two hospital visits. It is her bill, but we don't remember not paying them. One is for $90 and one for $100. The insurance payed the rest. The person at the hospital also returned a copy of the letter we sent, and wrote a note at the bottom. They did not sign it and wrote with a red ball point pen. This is an exact quote. "See enclosed printouts of accounts. Dates of service are for June and August of 2001. They may have been added to your credit in 2006. Thanks" This is how it is listed on the EX report. TASC (is the collection agency) Status: Collection Account Status details: This account is scheduled to continue on record until Mar 2013 Date opened Type Credit limit/Original amount 10/2006 collection $100 Reported since Terms High Balance 02/2007 1 months NA Date of status Monthly Payment Recent balance 02/2007 $0 $100 as of 02/2007 Last Reported Responsibily Recent Payment 02/2007 individual $0 Account History Collection as of Feb 2007 The other account is listed the same, with only the account # and amount owed different. From what I have found by reading everything I can here, it seems to be that the 7 year window for reporting begins when the account is first late. The collection agency seems to be using the date it was assigned to them, which was almost five years from the dates of service. I don't know when the DOFD would be on this account, but it was not 5 years later! The letter from the hospital did not say if they still own the debt. We have not had any contact with the collection agency. We have received no mail or phone calls from them. The only contact we have had with the hospital was the letter I described. I would appreciate any advice on the best way to get this off of my wife's report. It is only reporting on Experian. I have been reading the info on the HIPAA process, but do not know if that is the best way to proceed, considering these account are 9 years old. If it makes a difference, the hospital is in Texas, and we also lived there at the time. We now live in Arizona, but will return to Texas when I retire next year. I want to pay this because we really did not know we owed it, and we may need that hospital again in the future. Would the HIPAA process be the best way, or is there a way to get rid of them due simply to their age? I tried to find relevent info before posting, but I still have many posts to read through! I did not really find anything relating to med account this old. Thank you for your help.
