Are you talking Perkins loans?? They are subject to the same Federal guidelines. Other institutinal loans, like endowment loans or emergency loans have no SOL either particularly if the school is deemed a non profit.

Thanks, that's what I needed to know. Also, this debt is almost 10 years old and has been turned over to a CA. It's a small amount around $500. Would I have any luck writing the school and asking them to remove it from my report in exchange for payment or is it too late. Do I need to deal with the CA. Thanks.

Anyone else have an opinion on this one? Anyone had any luck with a PFD from a CA when dealing with a student loan issued from a specific college? They are turning up the heat with calls and letters and I would like more information before I respond. Thanks.

Has it been 10 years since the date of last activity? If so, they can not report this on your CR. PFD might be the only option. Just paying it without a PFD agreement might re-activate the account and you're stuck with a "paid collection" on your report for another 7 years.

Do student loans fall off after 7 years? I really want to get it paid and gone.
