 I have an old student loans with citibank that has been paid since 2000. Here is the loan information

Date reported 1996.

Last status update 2000

History: was late 180 days

How can this loan get removed from the negative item list . Its been paid for 5 years but still apppear as a negative item. Should I do A dispute as never late? Would this move these items to the positive item list? All suggestions welcomed

It will stay on your CR until 7 years from the last date of activity. From what I understand Citibank will verify your lates...that is just the way student loans report.

I have had absolutely NO luck with Studet Loans. I have a closed account with Sallie Mae and AES. They both have 2 or 3 lates (should have been in deferrment). I can't get them to remove the lates for anything.

Some people have had varying degrees of success with disputing lates or with goodwill letters. You can do a search here on both topics to find others' experiences. Definitely let us know what you try and the results!!

:dntknw: No luck Citibank already has updated my status to the same as it was before.

I did get some advice from a friend who is an attorney. He said I should dispute them as 7 years from the last payment this mean they should be deleted. He says many times they look at the loan origination date and will delete bases on that date. All my loans from citibank originate back in 1990-1995. He says he has a 90% sucess rate with Salli-Mae. I will try this with Citibank. Will provide you guys with an update!!!!

I contacted AES (buyers of my rehabbed loans) with the very same thing and was told (from the Chair's office) that they negative lates will remain on my CR for 7 years and I have new tradelines that are positive, but the old tradelines some show: Transferred and others have Gov't claim and they still have the 90+ days late. The letter told me that those will remain, but he will have the Gov't claim portion changed.
