Here's the situation: I had a difficult time with money due to a job change and I found myself lacking a bit and was late on my student loans for several months. Not wanting to kill my credit I called SM and spoke with a nice lady and explained everything. She said she would backdate my forebearance and that would help defer payments. I told her I was concerned with my credit and she assured me that there would NOT be any lates reported. Fast forward about 6 months. SM starts to report 90-day lates on my 2 student loans. I've tried disputing but the same thing happens everytime....I end up with a CS person in India who says she cannot do anything because she sees where I was originally 90 days late. Worst of all, I live in the same town as SM HQ. I feel like walking through the door like Michael Douglas in that one movie.

Anyone have suggestions on how to get this cleared up? Much appreciated.

I have the same issue. They have sold the account and it is showing up with few lates on my credit report. I am trying to find out when these things will be deleted. I know that these are the things that are hurting my score. . ..

Huh. I did a similar thing on my student loans, not once but twice. Should have called them and filled out a forbearance form the day I knew I was in trouble, but instead I took my time, and on two occasions about a year apart I got hit with 90 days late notes.

In my case it took me a while to figure out what was going on (wasn't keeping an eye on the reports), so it was probably another 9 months before I realized they were there.

When I disputed with Equifax, I basically just said that the paperwork was slow, but the loans were retroactively in forbearance, and that the creditor no longer considers me late for those months. In my case, the notes came off. Maybe I was just lucky. But it might be worth trying again in a few months. It might also have helped that I was back on track and actively paying the loans again when I disputed--maybe put the loan company in a more lenient frame of mind?

My first post....

Just wanted to add to this conversation in that I also have a 90-day slow pay. I talked with the guy in India :swoon: then decided to write a 'please, please, please' letter to SMae.

I also DV'd the CRAs so hopefully there is a positive resolution in the middle?

I'll post my letter if it works.

Just went through this(still goint). Girlfriend got a deferment(not foreberance)

approved for prior year(backdated one year). Since this is an official "We accept your hardship" we expected lates to disapear. Nope. CO's removed, EQ deleted whole tl(!) but EX and TU still there.

A forebearance is different though. They will keep lates on and are allowed to.

Actually I went through the same thing. The first time I didn't understand credit and got the foreberance and called it a day. The second time around I was very concerned with my credit and I did not want this to affect my credit. I asked the counselor if this would take the late payments off. She said no. Even though they were changing the forebarance to two months previous she explained that she could not change what was reported to the credit bureau. I don't know if anyone else has had luck with this. If so let us know how.
