Credit Union without Membership requirments?

My company is not affiliated with any credit union, and I am looking for more services from another bank. Im looking to build my savings and investment profile and also to have a credit union available to me. Are there any credit unions or banks out there that are online that dont have the memberships requirements of working with a certain company or living in a certain area? I currently bank with US Bank and just want another bank option open to me for future vehicle or home purchases, or savings options. If anyone can recommend an online bank or Credit Union, please let me know.

Almost all of the credit unions that get talked about on here, anyone can join. The glaring exceptions are Navy Fed and PSECU.

I tried to apply online with Alliant and was unable to due to not being affiliated with a organization or community. I also didnt have any family members that were members either. CNN Money rated Alliant pretty high and even there article on them stated that anyone can join. For some reason, I was unable to. If im missing something, please let me know.

For Alliant, you need only donate $10 to a nonprofit to become eligible.
