Hello All,

I am new to this forum and seeking advise about some unpaid hospital debts in FL. I currently have a credit score of 700.
On Dec 3, 2011 I gave birth via emergency C-section to my first child. She was born at 30 weeks. I currently have GEHA medical insurance.
We had a 6 week NICU stay and baby girl is healthy and great now. GEHA did pay my hospital stay as it was fully covered under maternity. I am still dealing with a few creditors because they billed incorrectly, but my biggest concern is my daughter's 6 week NICU stay.
1. My max out of pocket $5000 per year. GEHA is telling my I owe $10,000 because it rolled over calendar years (Dec to Jan). I consider this the same event and it should on be subject to one calendar year max. Is daughter was born in July this would not be any problem! I don't find this fair at all. Is there anything I can do about this?
2. With this assumed $10,000 I expected it to be all from the hospital. Then I could easily work out a payment plan and yada yada yada. Well wasn't I naive?!! I owe this money to about 20 different creditors ranging from the hospital to the doctors, etc. This makes it an absolute nightmare to contact each one, scrutinize every bill, work out each payment plan. I am completely overwhelmed. I don't know who to pay what and at this point I want to give up and let it all go to collections. I have a new house and car and really don't need credit for some time.
GEHA negotiated rates without consulting me and now I have to pay the negotiated rate. My true feeling is that the already received their EXORBITANT fees paid at 80% by GEHA. I really do not feel like paying anything at this point, or very little. If I had no insurance my entire NICU bill would have been paid by medicaid I was told by the NICU social worker. So again, being responsible and having health insurance bit me in the butt.
Any advise as to what to do? Should I try to settle with each creditor, even though it would take an extreme amount of time and work on my part? Or should I just let it all go and use that money for my daughter's future? Will they sue me or try to put a lien on my home?

PS...I was contacting each creditor as the bills came in to let them know I was waiting until I had ALL the bills to begin payments. Well of course the first ones that started billing have now already sent it to collections! They couldn't even wait to give me time to figure out what to pay in the big picture! THEY DO NOT MAKE IT EASY FOR SOMEONE TO PAY THEIR DEBT! I truly had intentions of paying, but they have made it so complicated and stressful that I give up!!!!
