I am trying to pull my loans out of deferment to consolidate them to lower my DTI ratio. Even though I'm in an "in school" status with deferment until 2017, the mortgage company is still including them in my DTI ratio. Consolidating them would cut my payment from $1000/mo to $250/mo. I applied to do all this online and got a letter that my application had been cancelled so I called them today. They told me I can't ever pull my loans out of deferment while I'm in school and consolidate. She basically told me I would have to quit school, let the grace period run out, then consolidate. She said I couldn't even make a payment on them right now if I wanted to. Is this really true? I am offering to pay my loans back to government and they don't want my money?
