Denied when trying to open new account with NASA... wtf?!

I tried to apply for a basic savings account with NASA credit union and it said they were unable to fulfill my request. I called and spoke to a CSR who put me on hold for a long time to talk to a manager, then came back and said there was something in Chex Systems from several months ago... and that they will be sending me a letter about it.

 

WTF?!?! I have had no issues with checking accounts (or savings accounts) so what is going on?? What should I do?

Some institutions care if you have anything bad in Chex, some will open despite it. I'd recommend you get a copy of your Chex report.

Okay, I ordered it. Once I get it (and presumably there will be some stupid BS in it) then what do I do?

If it truly is BS, dispute with Chex and hopefully they'll remove it.

Update: So I got my ChexSystems report, and it showed a $55.09 chargeoff from TD Bank... I had opened a checking account with them over a year ago, which was supposed to be a free checking account but apparently they changed the policy and now it has a monthly fee. I talked to the bank manager about it, they claim everyone was told when they signed up that it would only be free for the first year but I definitely don't remember that, I can't imagine I would have signed up if that was the case... In any event I can't find my paperwork from when I first signed up but I worked it out with the manager so it has been taken care of and I got a letter and it should be out of ChexSystems within 2 business days... at that point I'll hit up Nasa and see if they can open my account now (and perhaps apply for a cc) using the EQ pull they already did about a week ago when I tried to sign up.

NASA does a hard pull for everything, they don't reuse pulls.
