I'm a former mortgage originator. What are the conventional and FHA guidelines for time-in-job these days?

 

I'm considering looking for a (better paying) new job. Have been for some time, actually. My eye is on government - possibly HUD or the VA (mortgage area) doing something mortgage related on the government/regulatory side.

 

So with this type of job history, would it be close enough to "same field/line of work" for me to be OK to qualify for a purchase mortgage (presuming FICOs are all 700+ at time of app) and lower LTV's make it easier?

 

Job history would look like this:

 

Company A - 2001 - 2007 - Mortgage Originator

Company B - 2007 - 2008 - Mortgage Originator

Company C - 2008 - 2010 - Retail Banking - in-branch sales rep (deposits, loans, etc) - MUCH lower pay than I made in first 2 jobs

Company D - Government Agency in mortgage-related regulation -

 

The jobs I seek pay about double what I make now but less than I made (on commission) at my mortgage jobs (company A and ...

 

Would this fly?? Would the fact that I took a job for considerably higher pay make any difference?

 

Hell it could be years before I find a better job but knowing the answer to this would at least get that part of it off my mind. At least I *am* working!
