I have a student loan that I had defered from mar 07 til mar 08. I was late when the deferment took place and they back dated. They faxed me a letter showing the deferment. They will not change it on the credit report. I have already called before I found this site. I also disputed with 2 cra's and they came back verified no surprise. What should I do next? Should I send them the fax showing the deferment?

I know this is hurting my score alot. I posted this in credit forums before I realized that it should go here. Sorry just ignore that one. I really need help. This is one of the few things in the last year that is going to keep me from a fha home loan.

They backdated deferment applys to the payments ONLY. Retro deferments do not apply to your credit report. The borrower is responsible to apply for deferements on time.

Are you saying there is no way to get these lates off of my credit report?

If the late are valid, federal law requires they be reported.

if i send the cra the letter showing deferment do you think they will remove. Has anyone had sucess with that?

Like Lynn's already told you, a retroactive deferment does not invalidate the lates. They are valid lates, so sending this to them almost definitely won't do any good. Since the lates are valid, your only shot that I can see is goodwill and that's a long shot at best. They're are a few folks around here who have had success with this, so hopefully they'll come along with some advice, but don't get your hopes up. SL baddies are probably the most difficult thing to get off of your CR.

Is this true some people have had success? I thought they couldnt chnage the credit report because of federal law. If even 1 person has had success, I'll send a letter. I just didnt want to waste a stamp for the impossible.

I cant imagine this would be successful through a CRA dispute. The only was I cansee it would be very very lucky through a goodwill letter.
