Son got a student loan through chase. Signed up for school in the fall, got the money - and has now decided he does not want to go to school for a year - he's using the money to live on and pay bills. He said I'll just pay it back when they ask for it. I'm furious, but luckily I did not co-sign - Does chase not care what you use the money on? - Still can't believe they would give someone a loan that has no job...but they did.

Of course they care. It sounds like he's basically committing fraud and it's your son you should be more angry with. I suspect that if Chase catches wind of his not being enrolled, he'll be in a world of trouble. Bad, bad, bad idea.

Does 1 year in prison and or a $10,000 fine scare him? It is written on the prom note.

The school will notify Chase and they will immediately come looking for him for the entire balance...not payments.

The police came and carted someone away about 8 years ago where I lived at. She had a little bit of a record for fraud, and she signed up for some type of vocational/institute school, but didn't go to school.

Your son is not on the right track with this. I am glad you are giving him some motivation by kicking him out. Hope he gets some sense.
