As stated in my topic, I've already used up all my federal aid for this school year. Now I need help paying for my summer classes. I also do not qualify for state aid/grants. And I don't have the extra $$ to pay for tuition and books. My credit sucks. so I can't get a private loan either. Nor do I have a co-signor.

My school says if I don't take summer classes, then my student loans will go out of deferment status, and I'll have to start paying on them. Even if I go back in the fall.

What are my other options for aid?

Babe, you and I are in the same boat. I just got the bill from my community college for all of my summer classes and I've used up all of my aid. Oh, and the "Deferment will end as of 'such and such' date if you do not enroll for summer classes" thing...yeah, me too. I can't get any private loans because I don't qualify (I've still got 4 months before I hit 21 months of good credit history).

I'll let you know if I figure anything out. It's one heck of a rock and a hard place to be in.

If you're only wanting to take classes to postpone making loan payments, why don't you just request a forbearance?

I agree with Saria, ask for a forebearance. Are you not registered for this semester? There are many students who don't take summer classes and don't have any problems when they start back in the Fall. The only reason I could see that you could have to start paying is if you aren't in class this semester.

I am registered this semester. And am already registered for summer classes. But not for Fall yet, as it's still too early.

I made an appt. to talk to the FA office bigwig, who may be able to help me.

My staffords were disperssed

Summer

Fall

Spring

Im guessing your school doesnt do this huh?

Mine takes your stafford amount and if your enrolled for summer- splits them into thirds...thats what you get each semester

Also- if your enrolled for the fall- you dont have to start paying your loans ...thats just plain incorrect information. i was in school for 3 years before I took any summer classes

Some schools do what yours does but some (in fact, I'd guess most) don't. For example, the school I currently attend does Fall, Spring, then Summer. In order to split financial aid into three disbursements, I have to tell them in August that I'll be taking classes the following summer. Each school has their own procedures.

Gotchya

But I still dont get why the repayment already begins. Spring semester ends in May, Fall semster starts in September (usually) thats only 4 months....

I graduate in May, and my repayment doesnt begin until January
