First off let me say that this is my first post here and I have to say that even thought I have been lurking here for a while, it's nice to finally join. I now have a new mission and that is to make my credit the best it can be. Anyway, sorry for the rant.

Here is my issue. I just graduated this last fall and right now my loans are in grace. I have an approx. total of $15,000 all with Citibank student loans. The interest rate is at a monster 2.82 Now when I start to pay into the loans after the grace, will I need to refinance to get one loan or should I just leave it the way it is. The only logical reason that I would want to do that is b/c there is 3 lines of seperate loans on my credit report.

What should I do? I dont want to mess up my interest rate but I also want to maximize my credit score. Anyone?

I had 7 Sallie Mae loans after I graduated. Payments were between $20-$30 a month each.

So last month I consolodated them into 1 TL for a monthly payment of $80. They took the 7 TL's and marked them closed paid as agreed and gave me a new TL showing pays as agreed with my new balance and payment.

My scores shot up.....created credit history and 7 paid TL's.

If you are still in grace, by consolidating in grace you can lock your rate at 2.875%. If you wait until after you go into repayment, your rate will increase to 3.5%. The only way that you can prevent your interest rate from going up is to consolidate. There are additional ansilary benefits, but at this time that is probably the major one for you.
