Toyota Solara Convertble OWNERS

I am thinking of trading in the BMW for a new Toyota Solara convertible.

 

Need advice from present Solara owners on this model.

I currently own a 2007 Solara Convertible. I am still awaiting info from my attorney on when they will pay for the LEMON they sold me...

 

The first 60 days of ownership it was in the shop for 42 days.

 

The car still has safety defects that they have not been able to repair, regarding the passenger seat/airbag.

 

I think overall Toyota is a reputable/reliable company, but I guess every auto maker has Lemons.

 

I think the car rides nice, it is a looker, and it is not as noisy as some convertibles can be.

 

If you do decide to go with it, I hope your luck is better than mine

Solara is the black sheep of the Toyota family, the older model had transmission problem and the newer ones ain't that good either. Go to Toyota forum or solara forum and see what the owners are discussing.

 

I have a Chrysler Sebring convertible and the car runs perfect with very little problem, actually just one but I did regular maintanence on it. I just bought a SAAB because the Sebring's got 145,000 miles on it and I don't feel comfortable driving to work 65 miles per day.

 

There are couple of things to think about before buying a soft top convertible, it is very noisy, so noisy that you have to blast the stereo if you want to listen to it while on the freeway. Can't take it to an automated car wash, at least I didn't but I did see someone drive in though.

 

If I were to buy a convertible again I would buy a hard top convertible like the Pontiac G6 or the Volvo, the VW looks weird.

I'm not so sure I'd trust a new Solara Convert. I'm not 100% sure about the new models, but the previus generation was't designed to be a convertible at all. Toyota would build a coupe body and send it to a 3rd party fabricating company and they would chop the roof off for the convertible model. The bodies were VERY loose, rattly, and not very rigid at all.
