Hi guys,

Question,

I have 4 Citibank student loan accounts that were later consolidated into 1 loan (with Citibank). Before I consolidated, they were past due for 90 days. Any chance at getting these removed? Has anyone had any success doing this?

Thanks!

No experience with Citibank proper. But I had a similar situation with AFSA. They fought and fought and fought, but IIRC the details eventually were disputed off by punching hard on the 30-day window. Had to really push on it.

There is ALWAYS a chance at getting something removed and there are MANY ways to do it.

Student loans are completely different beasts from normal consumer debt. The gov't requires lenders to report accurately and for the prescribed amount of time. Disputing student loan lates often makes the lenders just look a little harder manually...."oh he was 120 days late, not 90 days late as previously reported."

I tried to get lates on my Citibank loan removed about 9 months ago via sending a kind goodwill letter. They sent a nice letter back (very soon after they received my letter) saying that by law they were required to accurately report the data and that it would remain an item on my account history for up to 7 years. The lates were in the March/April 2003 timeframe, 60-90 days late.

I don't think there is much that can be done about these lates, except let them age and wait until they fall off.
