I busted my hand boxing alittle over a year ago. It's a fairly common thing (boxer's fracture) to get and I didn't think much of it. I ended up going to the emergency room at gf's request. I paid my deductible for the visit as per the hospital policy. I was something around $130. The total for the xray's and handy-dandy finger brace was something under $1000.

I received a letter from the hospital about a month later stating that I owed an additional $134 to the Dr. and $40 for the xray. At the time, I was covered under insurance and so I directed the hospital to contact them. I advised my HR people at work that there was an issue with the insurance not covering part of the visit.

The company I was working for lost its contract. We did a badge switch for the new contractor that came in and I didn't think much about the old bill.

Then I get seperate letters from the Austin Radiological Association and one from the Dr. regarding the payment. The insurance company refused to pay the debt. I never spoke with either entity regarding the matter.

Now the bill has been turned over to a CA. I want to use Why Chat's HIPAA procedure, but I don't know if I should send it to the hospital or the ARA. I don't know what to do or who to deal with.

Any suggestions?
