I applied for a Parent Plus Loan and was denied. I am assuming it is because I am 2 years out of bankruptcy applied thru citi bank. Can anyone suggest where I can turn to get a private parent loan for my daughter to go to college. I know that she should now quailify for an additional 4000 in student loans in her name which she is getting 2600 now. But the remaining balance will be appx. $11,000, she is recieving a $15,000. scholarship from the university. But I can not afford to make monthly payment for $11,000 that is why I need some type of loan even half. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but is your daughter getting federal financial aid? All she has to do is fill out the FAFSA online to apply. The interest rate would probably be lower than a private loan and she would have in-school deferment.

There are other banks that will make private student loans other than Citibank, but after BK you might need a co-signor and you will definitely pay a higher interest rate.

Does the school's financial aid office have any useful information?

Obviously, the OP's daughter has already done a FAFSA as she is already getting 2600 and the OP has done a PLUS loan - its not a private loan, it's a federally backed, credit based loan.

Private loans may, in fact, be the only option.

This post is a little ironic to me. I posted a while back asking how to get denied for a Plus loan. Try as I might, I couldn't get denied, and my credit sux. No BK though. If you can't obtain a private parent loan, perhaps your DD could get a private loan in addition to her federal one.

We have filled out the FASFA forms and she is getting the 2600 in student loans. I applied for a parent plus for the difference but since I was denied she should be able to qualify for additional 4000. But now I need a private educational loan to cover the difference. She doesn't qualify for a private loan because she is only 17 and you need to be 18 to apply.
