Default Student loan

I have a student loan with US bank that is now with a collection agency. I thought this was a private loan the CSR at the collection agency is saying its a federal loan because it was federal funds used. Well I contacted the Dept of Ed. and they could not located a default student under my name I have been checking with them for the last two months still nothing. I want to get my loan in Rehab I want to know if this private loan can be rehab. I'm wondering what options I have before the start the wage garnishment. PLEASE HELP

Private loans cannot be rehabbed.

 

Ask for someone higher up at the CA to verify that what they are collecting on is a private loan. US Bank does both FFELP loans and private loans.
