I'm relatively new to these boards--have been browsing this forum and haven't seen anything, at least definitively, on whether private student loan companies offer rehab programs. My situation is this:

I have a private student loan through CitiAssist which was discharged through a BK; however, I continued making payments b/c a family member co-signed. I noticed on my CRs that the loan was listed as CO--I stopped making payments in May 2005 b/c it looked as though I was not getting credit (I should have called them). They are now calling my co-signer. I really screwed up--bad decision to stop payments when I had a co-signer at stake.

My primary concern is protecting my co-signer; however, I don't have a lump sum of money. Would like to start making payments again. Has anyone been in this situation?

Thank you.

Sure, lots of people have. Do a search as there is a lot of info here. But you will find there is no such thing as rehab for a private SL. You need to call your lender and work out a payment plan.

Good luck
