US Bank Secured - Unsecure after 1 year with score 650+

I just called for recon after the bank declined my request to unsecure my one year old skypass secured visa. I was told that the bank would unsecure accounts over 1 year old with a score of 650+, and could possibly convert directly to a platinum account with a starting limit of 5000. My EQ score (the one they usually check) is currently 614 and therefore they cannot do anything right now. But I believe if I fight off just one more baddie and lower my uti a little bit I should be able to hit 650. Will try then.

Last time I called it was a rather unpleasant experience. Some rude lady bluntly denied my request in fluent english and told me that if I closed the account I would be charged a $25 fee. I had a thread about it.

 

The korean lady I spoke to this time was very helpful and professional. Her korean accent somehow made me feel very comfortable. She actually cared about my desire and encouraged me by explaining the bank's guidelines. I call this real customer service. So many people hate to speak with offshorers when they call. They want to speak with their "own" people. Yet in this case the situation was quite the opposite for me. Ironic, isn't it?

True, and yes it is ironic, what with all of the complaints about outsourced CSRs. It was just funny to me because it didn't really add anything to your original post, heh.

I surely would like to apply for the secured card now (my eq is 604)

and then may be get the unsecured later...

US Bank has two secured products. One is the regular US Bank secured visa with a $35 annual fee. However it's only available to AR, AZ, CA, CO, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, MN, MO, MT, ND, NE, NV, OH, OR, SD, TN, UT, WA, WI, WY residents.

 

The other one is skypass secured visa that earns you skypass points with a $50 annual fee available to all US residents.

 

Both require you to print out the applications and mail them in. They can be found on http://www.usbank.com

 

I would not recommend these cards if you can qualify for BOA and wellsfargo because the annual fee is kind of high and a $25 fee will be charged for accounts closed in two years. However just like national city their approval is guaranteed, and national city is not clear on unsecuring guidelines.
