So, over an over I see people asking things like:

"Does anyone have a copy of a letter for xxx"?

I've decided to write this guide to explain how to write letters. I'm sure I'll have additions to it, but, here goes.

Your name

your address

your ssn (if sending to CRA..NOT TO ANYONE ELSE)

Name of RECIPIENT

Address of recipient

Date (VERY IMPORTANT)

CERTIFIED MAIL # 12345678910 (if applicable)

Dear Sir/Madam (or any other salutation you like)

Ok..what are you writing about.?

I'm writing about a recent listing on my credit report.

I recently recieved a letter from your company.

What are you trying to tell them.

The listing for xyz account is inaccurate.

I dispute this alleged debt.

You are screwing up by doing blah blah blah.

What you want to happen.

Please investigate.

Please delete.

Please provide validation.

Please get bent.

CYA

It's inconvenient to call me at any time.

This debt is past SOL, good luck collecting.

I have you on 53 differenct FDCPA and FCRA violations.

Whatever

Conclusion.

Please respond within 30 days.

Thanks for your time.

Mess with me and you'll regret it.

Sincerely,

Your Name (no need to sign, though I do to CRA's)

Viola.

I'm a firm believer that you can get everything you need in 10 lines or so.

I tend to go for "least sophisticated" when I'm hoping for violations, and more thorough when I have them.

Here are two examples:

Dear CRA,

I recently obtained a copy of my credit report and you are reporting inaccurate information. The listing for Creditor 1 is incorrect. I've never had an open account with that company for the dates and amount listed. Please investigate.

Thanks for looking into this.

Sincerely,

n_t.

Dear Scumbag CA,

I just pulled my credit report and saw that you are reporting an account, number 12324. I dispute this alleged debt. Please provide validation within 30 days.

Sincerely,

n_t.

While these are just examples, this really applies to anything that you write during credit repair. There is no magic. In some cases (Why Chat's HIPAA come to mind) you need something more specific, but for the most part if you write a letter as simply as you can, you should be good to go.

Feel free to blast me if this is a stupid post.
