  1. Also, what can I do about the paid CapOne? Any way to make that work for me?
  2. Hi Eeveryone, Bump and updates. I wrote a PTD letter to Palisades, still waiting for a response. Midland - I looked more closely at the credit report and realized that the HSBC debt is the same that Midland has, but the OC is only reported to experian. I called Cohen and Slamowitz and asked about PTD, the rep there had never heard of anything, so I told her I'd send a letter to both her and to Midland and asked her to present her client (midland) with the offer. The problem is I've already been paying this, and I'm now down to like $600 left to pay. Do I have good chances? Amex - the advice sounds good, but I haven't done anything for two reasons. 1st, the account is originally from NJ, I've only been in NY since 2005. 2nd, I'm not sure if it would be better to have the thing reopened with Oasis, or just to let it fall off. I think I'm going to pay this, since I guess PTD is out of the questions with an OC, and both options I have begin with paying it off. Discover - still need advice on what to do with this. Thanks
  3. Thanks guys, I'll do the 1-2 punch and give all of them a call. I'm just wondering if anyone has had luck with any of these specific companies, and what strategy works best. Thanks, I'll reply with updates.
  4. This is interesting. I defaulted on my student loans, and they went to the Fed's collection agency. I immediately called them and began what they called a "loan rehabilitation." At the end of 9 months of payments, they removed the collection, and it appears as an installment account that has never been late. It states that it was opened in 2004, but the rehab process just ended this year. Before starting the rehabilitation, I had not made a single payment on my loan for at least a year. So I guess the moral of the story is that there is hope with student loans.
  5. Hi all, I've been working towards improving my credit, and I have some questions about a few of my debts. $168 - AMEX - Date of Status 1/02 charged off. is it possible to have this removed. I actually thought the account was paid in full. The date that it will fall off is not listed, but I'm guessing it's Jan 2009. Should I just let it fall off? would OASIS be a good idea, or will that just prevent the account from falling off the report. $1561 - Discover Fin Svs - Date of Stats 12/03 charged off/written off "Reported past due 4/08". Has anyone had luck with paying to delete with discover? What should I do with a debt this old? Also, what does the recent report mean? Does that put another 7 years on this? I can afford to pay this off now. $494 - Pallisades collection (ATT was OC) - scheduled to stay on till 2/2011 - anyone have luck with getting them to delete? I can pay this off right now. $2121 - Midland Credit - (houshold credit was OC) - they've sued me, and I'm dealing with Cohen & Slamowitz to pay it off - I haven't signed anything yet. Can I get them to remove the record? $2648 - HSBC - CO'd 1/04 and bought by another lender. I have an account with them that is current and never late for 2 years. Is there anyway that I could negotiate something with them? has anyone ever tried something like that? Also, I don't even remember having an account with them to begin with. I had the amex, discover, and union plus (household credit); and I don't see the other lender CA on my report. Is this the Midland credit thing? are Household and HSBC the same? Finally, I have a debt that I paid in May of 06 with Cap1 before I understood how credit works. The account is closed and I settled it with them, is there anything I can do about that? I'm a 26 year old, when I graduated from college I was hit with the importance of good credit like a ton of bricks. My experian score is 569 (I haven't gotten the others yet) and I live in NY, and if you don't have top credit in this city, you don't have a place to live. I plan to buy an apt in 5-10 years. With that goal in mind, what should my plan of action be?
