  1. I'm a teacher as well. It is tough staying after school for extra pay. I tried it for one year. I tutored after school. I was a very stressed out individual during that time. It wasn't worth it after the money was taxed and the 13% for retirement was taken out. Exactly. And there is some stupid "gift tax" as well. It's crazy. I have a good friend who has a nine-month-old. He does summer school from 8-12. Then he does summer school after-school program from 12-4. He is worn the hell out. Remember, with summer school kids, you are getting most of the kids who did not "get it" all year long. And with the after-school kids, you are getting MOST of the behavior kids whose parents want them out of the house. It is not worth the $150-160 a day. I would rather just be chillin at home with my family. I'll never do any extended hours or summer school again! As my Realtor once told me: "All money ain't good money"! These kids are my regular clients during the school year. I'm a high school science teacher and I teach the "non-science track" students, ie behavior problems and I don't care(for the most part). No way in hell I would take a double dose. Agree with your whole post.

  4. I have been denied credit due to an account that has been paid but has somehow after 1 year since last payment reporting as a collection account. The original creditor is Icon Fitness. Don't ever purchase anything from them online with installment payments. I bought two treadmills in 2003. My account was transferred twice, my credit card was still being charged for payments until paid in full, fastforward 2006 I have a collections account reporting for $213. At my expense I have to order 18 months of credit card statements for $90 to prove payments. I don't mind doing this to protect my credit. As mentioned I was denied credit, what actions can I take against Icon Fitness or the collections agency they are using. Thanks in Advance
  5. I bought the same car with 36,000 miles for 23,000 in March. I love the car.
  6. Thank you for your response. I did have an inspection on this home and there was nothing in it to indicate that the basement was prone to flooding.
  7. Thank you for the response revans. Some of the evidence that I could possibly use is the Metropolitan Sewer District which maintains the sewers in my area. They could tell me how many times the basement has flooded in the last nine years. Also, my neighbors have been inside the house and they told me why a toilet in the basement of the home that I purchased was removed. They stated that the prior owner took the toilet out because when the sewer backs up the water came out of the toilet. Also, after I bought the house, I noticed that there is a heavy blue line which looked like water damage that went around the lower portion of the wood paneling in the basement. I am just hoping that I won't get screwed on this. I will be calling several lawyers today to see if I have a case. Any other opinions are appreciated.
  8. If anyone can help with this I will be greatly appreciative. I bought a house in November of 2004. During the past couple of days there has been alot of rain in my area. I discovered that my basement flooded with sewer water. I thought this was an isolated incident. I went next doors to talk with my neighbors to see if their basement flooded. They said they have a system in place to keep the sewage from flooding the basement when this happens. They said they bought their house three years ago and it was stated in the sellers disclosure that the basement floods after heavy rain. Back to my situation. The seller of the home that I bought did not disclose this information. Now, since I thought the basement was livable space (this was also how the home was marketed: recreation area and 4th bedroom in basement) I placed a home theater and new furniture in the basement as well as most of my books and family pictures which is now all destroyed. Can anyone please advise on what to do.
  9. The collections came off without any action on my report. It first reported as Paid collection and then fell off of equifax and experian. I never paid the account they just reported it as paid.
  10. I am a week away from closing on my home and a collections account that was removed from my Equifax and Experian credit report has now resurfaced. It is listed on my Trans Union report as a paid collection. On the Equifax report it shows as unpaid. What should I do? I have several new tradelines and I don't think it will cause a problem should the lender pull my credit again. The collections did tank my Equifax score from 746 to 667. Any advise on how to handle this would be greatly appreciated. The amount of the collection is $75 from May of 2002. The collector is OSI.
  11. Broke, My loan is an FHA loan so it does require mortgage insurance. My scores are as follows: 660, 680, and 746. But with such a great interest rate, it really is a good deal, even with the mortgage insurance. The purchase price of my home is 86,000. My total monthly payment including taxes, insurance is $634.Hope this helps.
  12. I am from MO also. I am using MHDC funds for my down payment and closing cost since I don't have any money. They have started taking reservations for their new program the Ameican Dream Downpayment Initiative that will give a 6% cash assistance grant and still the 5.875%interest rate fixed for 30 years. I am working with CTX mortgage. They sell all of their mortgages after closing, but they were able to get the funds for me. The 6% assistance has stricter income guidelines. So you may want to check it out.
  13. I applied for a mortgage 1 month after my last credit card approval for 4000. I am set to close on my house on November 18. I went on an application spree over the summer. I have 10 new credit cards. The only thing they seemed worried about was the balance on each.
  14. My account is reporting on all three credit reports and I haven't used the card yet. They reported quickly for me. Approved in August and they reported in August. Old Navy as well. Approved last week and already reporting.
  15. So how big of a drop would you guesstimate - 20,30,40 points?
