Receiving calls from 2 CAs 15 years after BK discharge
Puppeteer replied to Puppeteer's topic in Credit Forum
In the past 7 days I have received calls from 21 separate and distinct numbers, some multiple times. I guess I'll have to use a couple of vacation days in order to have the time to stay home and answer the phone. -

The calls are from Credence Resource Management, EOS CCA, and one more that I haven't determined the name of yet. -

I'm not afraid. I am annoyed at being disturbed by the phone ringing 6 or more times a day. -

No, I don't know they are calling for me, and I haven't answered in part because I don't want to identify myself before I find that out. I have had this phone number for 17+ years, and it has always been unlisted. -
Since July, I have been receiving calls to my landline (and occasionally to my cell) from what I have now determined are 3 separate collection companies. I have not answered any calls, and there is never a message. One of them called me every hour starting at 9am for 2 weeks before they suddenly stopped. Now another one is doing the same. I know the steps to take to dispute a collection account, but I don't have anything in collections, and I have had a clean credit report for a decade. I have not received a letter from any of them. This feels like a total Catch 22. While the calls are annoying and intrusive, fighting back might open up whole other can of worms. Has anyone dealt with a situation like this? Is there a strategy to getting them to stop?

There is no question that he owes it and wants to pay it. He is very conscientious about his paying debts. What I failed to mention is that his income at the moment is entirely unemployment benefits. I am concerned that if there is any change in those that he might be in over his head.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. Not certain which worked but I received a letter today that it was lifted.

My son's student loan has just been sent to collections. Even though we mapped out a plan to send the DV with a C&D, and then do everything in writing, he answered a call from them on Thursday. I was in the next room and did not hear all of the conversation except that he was dutifully providing the info on what he earns and owes, and his banking information. An hour later he tells me that he agreed to make payments of $180/month. BRIEF PAUSE WHILE I REGAIN MY COMPOSURE He was told it would be rehabbed in 6 months, which he wants because he was being garnished until he was laid off, but I see his agreement as paying $180 (a full quarter of his current income) until it's paid off. Question is: Is there a grace period within which time he can rescind this agreement and renegotiate the terms?

It is a government backed loan and part of the agreement is that the loan will be rehabbed in 6 months, which he wants. (He was being garnished until he lost his job last March, and unemployment can't be garnished...hence the CA. He said he would pay $180 a month, though which is 1/3 of his income, and I don't think he can sustain that. How do I move this to the SL forum?

Ten days ago my son received a letter from the CA that has just acquired his student loan. Before he had a chance to send a DV letter, they called him yesterday, and despite all my advice, he took the call and ended up being talked into an agreement to make payments. He cannot possibly afford the payments that he agreed to make so I would like to know if there is a time period during which he is able to change his mind and renegotiate with the collection agency.

Done that and still no one can figure out how to fix it. I sent copies of my ID and SS card 2 weeks ago and just got back the same identical letter. Have called at least 6 different phone #s trying to get a human. The first one asked me all sorts of questions, put me on hold for 30 minutes and then said there were technical difficulties. Then I spent time on hold with a supervisor until the line suddenly went dead. Trying again now...Security Freeze Dept phone# I have is 1-888-298-0045

That's what I thought, and is why I am confused as to how my report has been blocked for 2 years and no one can figure out how to remove the freeze without a 10-digit PIN that I was never issued!

Who was the Einstein who failed to check for a bullet in the chamber? Ahhh, there's the real Award winner.
