Newbie here and trying to help my hubby.

He has about $37K in student loans that he's never paid or made any pymnt arrangements since he graduated in 2002.

We recently reviewed his credit reports and they are replete with entries such as:

ntlstdntln : collection acct - defaulted loan - clm filed against guarantor

nelnet lns : paid collection sudent loan

sallie mae : acct trfd or sold

nebraska student loan : charged off

nelnet lns : coll- p & l

sallie mae : trfd to another lender or claim purchased

sm servicing : transferred to another lender

student loan mkt assn : trf'd to another lender or claim purchased

The above entries are all for 4 loans 2 for $10k 2 for $8500

Aren't these duplicates and can they be removed? If so how do I go about getting them deleted from CRA's.

Also, I've been reading boards re: rehabbing student loans. Is this option available if you are in default? Not sure if loan hasn't already been consolidated nebraska student loan showing total of all 4 loans.

Desperately seeking advise before take any steps to try & repair/clean up CRA reports.

Sorry for such long post.... :(

This is normal with student loans. Note that they end with "transferred to another lender" or "charged off". So it looks like they've been sold several times.

Also, I've been reading boards re: rehabbing student loans. Is this option available if you are in default? Not sure if loan hasn't already been consolidated nebraska student loan showing total of all 4 loans.

Rehab is an option only if you are in default - it is not available to those not in default.

His loans are probably showing all 4 from nebraska student loans if that was the original lender. Ask your hubby if this is the case. You can always find the exact history of his loans from the NSLDS web site (link is in the "important info" stickie in this forum). That link will also tell him who currently holds the loans.

Rehab is a great option for your hubby. Contact the lender or servicer or CA who holds the loans now and get that set up. Once rehab is complete, the default notations *should* be removed. (Note that I say *should* because there are some other variables involved, but that's out of the norm.) You can read other threads on here from different posters to get an idea of what to expect. Whatever you do, definitely get it in writing.

Good luck... post if you have other questions
