Consolidated Loans removal from CR

I consolidated all of my loans. My question is this. Can I have USA Funds, TX Guaranteed Student Loan that is showing "Paid Collection" removed from my report now that they are all under Dept. of Education? How should I go about doing it? Can I dispute as not mine or ask CRA to remove - paid in full? Will it hurt my score?

Can I dispute as not mine or ask CRA to remove - paid in full? You can try disputing as not mine, but the govt keeps some good records so don't be surprised if that doesn't work. Doesn't hurt to try though. You could also try writing a goodwill letter to them if the dispute doesn't work. You can search this forum for others' experiences with both these things.

 

Will it hurt my score? That I don't think anybody can tell you. Depends on a lot of factors, like what else is on your report, age, etc., but getting negatives removed is always beneficial in the long run.
