I've got a couple of Perkin's Loans that have been paid in full through a Direct Loan consolidation with my other federal loans.

In reading through this board, I realized that when the attorneys acting as CA got in touch with me, I was not offered a means to rehabilitate the loan and was forced to consolidate or they'd sue. (I was very ignorant at the time.) This was a little over two years ago.

The loans are being reported as Paid/Collection - I'd like to get the negative information removed. I am planning on sending a goodwill letter to the OC (the college), but I'm wondering if contacting the ombudsman would help.

Thanks,

Housewife - I'd try a goodwill letter to the college first. If they won't help you, then contact the ombudsman. The ombudsman's office is going to want to see all the efforts you've taken to resolve the situation on your own before they get involved. However, if you need them, they are most helpful.

Cheech,

Thanks for the information. I figured that I'd have to send the goodwill letter first.

Do you think I should include the information that the lawyer's never offered me rehabilitation as an option?
